- Chapter 11: The Woman in the Robe <3>
A visibly irritated maid paced back and forth in a town slightly removed from the heart of the royal capital. She had accompanied her Master, at the latter’s insistence, to a local massage parlor for some acupressure therapy.
As a maid, she had initially refused the massage, stating it would interfere with her duties, but her Master had been insistent, and she had reluctantly agreed. This turned out to be a major mistake.
Her Master, in fact, had never intended to receive a massage. While the maid lay face down, receiving her lengthy session, her Master quietly slipped out of the parlor with the real intention of exploring the town.
By the time the maid realized this, it was too late. After finishing her 45-minute session and sitting up, she discovered her Master was nowhere to be found.
“That damned fool!”
The maid dashed out of the masseuse in a great hurry, searching for her master in the city. If the masseuse and her master were massaging her in danger, her head would be blown off.
She searched desperately, retracing the market streets, checking places where her Master might have wandered off to. But no matter how much she searched, she couldn’t find her.
“(This is really bad! If she’s come to harm…)”
Her thoughts raced with anxiety and tension. Frustrated, she cursed her Master, “That foolish girl! Where could she be…?”
Just then, someone approached her.
“Who are you calling a foolish girl? Hey, wait a minute.”
The maid turned to find a woman standing there, her face hidden deep beneath a hooded robe.
“Miss!”
It was her Master, the person she had been desperately searching for.
“I should knock you senseless…”
“I was worried about you! Where have you been?”
“Where else? Exploring the town.”
The girl replied nonchalantly to her agitated maid.
“Exploring the town? What if something dangerous had happened to you?”
“Something dangerous? Oh, I’ve already had my share of that.”
“You did?!”
As the irritated maid listened to the girl’s proud declaration, her eyes widened in disbelief.
“Yes, but don’t worry, some weird person helped me.”
“Being helped by a weird person doesn’t exactly reassure me!”
“How rude of you! You’d have been in big trouble if he hadn’t been there! You should be grateful to him.”
“Well… maybe so, but…”
(I guess you shouldn’t call your savior a ‘weird person’…)
“See, I knew you’d understand,” the girl said smugly, having convinced her maid.
Despite wandering off on her own and acting arrogantly, the girl held a position that allowed her such behavior.
Her name was Luna Lindesa Gilbert, the third princess of the Gilbert Kingdom, famed for her stunning beauty, with bright peach-colored hair that drew praise from dignitaries worldwide.
However, the reality was that she was a tomboy princess who, frustrated with the restrictive life at the palace, frequently dragged her maid out to explore the lives of commoners in the city.
“Come on, Irene, let’s go back.”
“I understand, Your Highness.”
Irene, the maid called by name, followed Princess Luna as they returned to the palace.
“It’s all your fault, Irene, that I got into trouble today.”
“You were the one who left me at the massage parlor!”
“That’s not my problem. You’re just useless, Irene.”
“Sigh… Yes, I’m useless. I apologize.”
Irene replied mechanically, knowing too well that taking the princess’s words seriously was pointless.
“Well, I’ll forgive you this time. Just be more careful next time.”
“Yes, Your Highness. I’m grateful for your generosity.”
Irene’s response was emotionless. Though she was the maid and had lost sight of her Master, she resolved never to let the princess out of her sight again.
“That’s good, then.”
The princess smiled contentedly, but Irene felt something was off.
Usually, the princess’s unreasonable complaints continued to the palace, but today, they ended abruptly.
“Your Highness, you seem in a particularly good mood today.”
“No, no, not at all.”
Luna paused quite a bit in response to Irene’s question, then turned away as she replied.
“…?”
The rather unusual reaction made Irene wonder even more, but she quickly switched gears and said, )Well, this stupid princess’s emotions are like this.)
…And the man named Shion Kurosaki, who had returned to the Magic Academy in the western part of the kingdom, away from the capital where they were walking, had no way of knowing that he had saved the princess of a country from danger.
