Volume 9 Chapter 7 Hunting
Five students falling headfirst towards the ground.
Surprised by this sudden event, Ruisha and Wolf hurriedly leaned out of the magic airship’s railing to peer at the five.
In mid-air, they adjusted their posture to face the flying wyvern and whispered softly.
“Wing Boots, activate.”
As soon as they said this, their bodies came to a sudden stop in mid-air, standing upright as if on an invisible ground.
“W-What is that!?”
“It seems to be a bit different from regular flight magic. With flight magic, it’s challenging to come to a complete stop like that. I wonder how they’re doing it. This is quite fascinating.”
Ruisha, captivated by this unknown technology, gazed at them with great interest.
On the other hand, the students from the Academy of Young Fangs, remained composed. Their leader, Kruik, took out binoculars and observed the flying wyvern.
“Target confirmed, medium-sized wyvern species. Brown in color, estimated to be a Rank C ‘Brown Wyvern’ in terms of difficulty. Estimated success rate of mission accomplishment with five members is over 80%. Initiating the hunt as planned.”
“Understood.”
In this brief exchange, they suddenly began soaring through the sky at an incredible speed, closing in on the wyvern.
Their leader, Kruik, signaled to his comrades with hand signs at an astonishing speed while in flight. Following his instructions, the team moved with precision, approaching the wyvern from two different angles for a pincer attack. Kruik alone headed straight toward the wyvern.
Watching their movements, Wolf couldn’t help but comment, “Their coordination is impressive.”
“You’re right. Moves like those don’t come from casual training. They seem to be formidable opponents.”
Kruik approached the wyvern in a straight line. The wyvern noticed his presence and let out a threatening roar. His comrades approaching from the flank were yet to be noticed.
Observing the wyvern’s reaction, Kruik smiled and poised his spear.
“Here comes the first strike!”
He exclaimed and hurled his spear with all his might.
The spear flew at an unimaginable speed, deeply impaling the wyvern’s back.
“Gogyuā!?”
The wyvern screamed in surprise due to the incredible speed, not comprehending what had just happened. The spear seemed to be deeply lodged, as red blood gushed from the wyvern’s back.
In pain, the wyvern grew furious, exhaling heat from its mouth. This indicated the accumulation of flames in an organ wyverns possess, known as the ‘Flame Sac Breath Plant.’ No matter how sturdy Kruik’s armor was, if he were hit by the wyvern’s ultimate technique, the ‘Flame Breath,’ he would be in serious trouble.
“Grururu…!”
“What’s wrong, come on.”
However, instead of fleeing, he provoked the wyvern. Although the wyvern was not highly intelligent, it understood the provocation and lunged at him with its mouth wide open, storing heat.
It was a desperate situation. But this was the situation he had been waiting for.
“Now!”
At his signal, four spears pierced the wyvern. While Kruik was drawing its attention, his approaching companions threw spears simultaneously.
The sudden attack confused the wyvern, causing it to interrupt its breath.
Then the ones who threw the spears began to circle around the wyvern.
Ruisha, thinking the movements were too flashy for mere agitation, focused his eyes to get a better look.
“I see, threads…”
The spears they had thrown were wrapped with steel threads, extending all the way to their hands. And naturally, if they circled around holding those threads, the threads would wind around the wyvern.
The wyvern, of course, struggled to free itself from the threads, but the more it struggled, the more the threads tangled, further draining its strength as blood leaked from its wounds.
“Hunt complete.”
Eventually, the wyvern, losing its strength to resist, hung its head weakly, suspended by their threads.

Volume 9 Chapter 8 Rival
The wyvern defeated by Kruik and the others was carried by them and laid on the deck.
Though it still had breath and occasionally struggled, the wires wound around its body prevented it from flying, let alone walking.
Kruik, with anger-filled eyes, approached the wyvern that glared at them. He pulled out a dismantling knife from his waist and thrust it into the wyvern’s throat. Blood gushed out from the wyvern’s throat, dyeing the deck red in a tremendous force. Simultaneously with the blood splattering, the light faded from the wyvern’s eyes, and within a few seconds, it fell to the ground powerless.
“I’ll leave the clean-up to you.”
With that command, Kruik left it to his comrades and approached Ruisha and Wolf.
“How was it? Our hunt.”
“You were excellent. I’ve never seen a fight like that before. The peculiar weapons you use are also very intriguing.”
“…You’re quite perceptive.”
Ruisha’s words made the atmosphere tense in that moment.
It’s normal to think that they fly with magic when you see Kruik and the others in battle. However, Ruisha had seen through that it was due to their equipment.
“The shoes and spears, right? They are clearly different from ordinary ones. I thought they were different from common magical tools in their construction. Could you show me in detail?”
“You think we’d show it to someone who might fight us in the future? You really are an unusual one.”
Kruik was exasperated by Ruisha’s innocent request to show their equipment.
“However, as a reward for seeing through this equipment, I’ll tell you a little. Our equipment is made using materials from monsters. For example, the wing membrane you can take from the wyvern we’re dismantling right now, when processed, becomes sails much stronger than cloth.”
Saying this, Kruik pointed at the wyvern being efficiently dismantled. Scales, wings, fangs, and meat. They were being divided into parts and assembled in an instant.
“Scales for armor, fangs and claws for knives and daggers. And of course, the meat is for consumption. In the Merchant Confederacy, monster materials are utilized efficiently. Their processing technology is unparalleled on the continent.”
Kruik confidently proclaimed.
Currently, in the kingdoms and empires, weapons are typically made using ores and imbued with special abilities through magical techniques. Using monster materials is considered primitive, and the processing technology for it has been declining each year.
However, in the Merchant Confederacy, which frequently faces monster attacks, that technology is thriving.
“The culmination of that technological prowess is the weaponry we’re equipped with. Armed with this power, we intend to win the Grand School Festival and showcase the strength of the Merchant Confederacy.”
His eyes were filled with confidence as he spoke. It seemed he was genuinely determined to win.
“I see. However, I also have a reason to win, so I can’t just let you win. I’m sorry, but even if we end up fighting, I won’t hold back!”
“Interesting. If you win, I might consider showing you our equipment.”
“Really!?”
“Yeah, a warrior keeps their word.”
“Don’t forget that promise!”
Ruisha extended his hand towards Kruik, visibly excited. He responded by firmly shaking his hand.
“Then let’s meet in the main tournament.”
“Yeah, and I won’t lose until then.”
With that promise made, the two parted ways, believing they would meet again…
