Volume 8 Chapter 9 Tag
“Tag… really?”
“That’s right. Surely you’re not unfamiliar with it?”
“Well, I do know, but…”
Tag was a popular children’s game.
Its history was ancient, tracing back to a legend three hundred years ago when a human encountered a legendary red ogre and somehow managed to escape from the ogre, giving rise to the origins of tag.
Nowadays, everyone knows this game, and Ruisha, hailing from a rural village, played it often during his childhood.
However, he never had fond memories as he was always quickly tagged by his childhood friend, Elena.
“The rules are simple. Ruisha, you’re the ‘ogre,’ and I’ll be the one running. The play area is the entire school, and the time limit is ten minutes. If you manage to tag me before that, you win. Easy enough, right?”
“I see. By the way, how many seconds after you start running can I move?”
“Hmm, how about ten seconds? We can start measuring time from when you start moving.”
“Understood, I accept the challenge.”
As Ruisha agreed to the challenge, the student council president grinned.
“I’ve played this game dozens of times in the past… and I’ve never lost once. I wonder if you can break that record?”
Saying this, the student council president moved a little away from Ruisha and made the announcement.
“As the Student Council President, Regulus Faneed, belonging to Class 3A, I hereby declare the start of the third match, ‘School Tag,’ in the name of the school!”
With these words, Student Council President Regulus started running.
Confident in his abilities, his steps were fast, and the distance between Ruisha and Regulus quickly widened.
However, it was still within the range of a speed that was faster compared to an ordinary student.
It wasn’t much compared to Ruisha’s fast classmate Merel, or his classmates with great agility.
“Alright, here I go…!”
After waiting for ten seconds, Ruisha was about to start running. He still had a clear view of the student council president. At this rate, he could catch him in just a few seconds.
But the moment Ruisha took his first step, something astonishing happened.
“Huh…!?”
Surprisingly, the figure of the running student council president vanished in an instant.
“Could this be an inhibitory magic!? I need to detect his magic power for now!”
Ruisha, feeling a sense of urgency, used magic power detection to sense the student council president’s magic. However, he could sense the presence of his magic all around the school.
“W-What’s going on!?”
Ruisha was bewildered. In the midst of this, Mite, the student council member with whom he had the first match, spoke to him.
“Our student council president is a very well-prepared individual. He wouldn’t challenge a match without thoroughly studying and devising countermeasures after thoroughly researching your dueling style. In other words, the moment you accepted this challenge, victory became difficult.”
“I see… so, capturing him by conventional means is challenging, isn’t it?”
As time passed by swiftly during this conversation, an ordinary person might have been flustered, but Ruisha had regained his composure.
That was because the words of his mentor, Testarossa, were etched in his mind.
“‘Are you alright, Rui-kun? Stay calm, especially in challenging times. There’s no problem in this world that cannot be solved,'”
“I understand, Tes-nee. There must be some way, right?”
Ruisha reminisced about every technique he had been taught until now. After contemplating for a minute or so, he arrived at a single answer.
“…Alright, this should work.”
With conviction in his words, Ruisha turned to Yuki, who had competed in the paper test earlier.
“Excuse me. May I ask you a question?”
“Huh? Oh, yes.”
Ruisha’s counterattack had begun.

Volume 8 Chapter 10 Shadow Hero
While Ruisha was devising a plan, the Student Council President, Regulus, sprinted through the school grounds.
However, despite his lightning speed, not a single student paid any attention to him.
“Hehehe, this sensation of running without catching anyone’s eye is irresistible!”
And it was for a reason. None of the passing students were perceiving him.
Regulus possessed a unique magic known as ‘Perception Inhibition Magic.’ By minimizing his own presence to the utmost limit, even if he entered someone’s field of vision, that person wouldn’t realize Regulus was there.
If he attempted to attack a highly skilled individual, they might notice him through his presence or killing intent, but once he distanced himself, even a seasoned warrior would find it difficult to track him.
It was an ability perfect for assassins and thieves… yet he had never once abused this power.
Quite the opposite.
“You, the boy over there! You dropped your handkerchief!”
Saying this, Regulus picked up the handkerchief and discreetly stuffed it into the pocket of the student who had dropped it.
However, the boy, completely oblivious to Regulus presence, didn’t even realize he had dropped his handkerchief and continued on his way.
In a typical situation, one would expect at least a word of thanks. But Regulus face beamed with a proud smile.
“Hehe, once again, I’ve secretly helped a student…”
He genuinely loved this magical academy. That’s why he would quietly assist the students.
Sometimes he would support a student who stumbled, other times he would carry a student with a stomachache to the restroom, and once he even caught a thief who had sneaked into the school.
One of the Seven Wonders of the magical academy, the ‘spirit-like being that helps you somehow,’ was, in fact, the doing of this Student Council President.
After ensuring the safety of several students he had helped, Regulus raced up to the rooftop of the school building and looked down.
“Now, now, what kind of move will Ruisha make? Ending it like this would be boring, wouldn’t it?”
He laughed cheerfully. In the corner of his vision, he saw a familiar figure.
Although it was distant and somewhat blurry, the silhouette and the blue hair were unmistakable. They were always together, so there was no mistaking it.
“Yuki? What on earth are you doing?”
Yuki Kraus, the Student Council Secretary. She should be counting the time at the spot where she lost in the second match. However, she was wandering outside, neglecting her duty.
“Hmm, I’ll go closer and see.”
Suspicious, Regulus approached her. Of course, he didn’t dispel his perception inhibition magic.
“Hey, where are you?” she repeatedly shouted.
There was no doubt, it was Yuki’s voice. Convinced, Regulus confirmed no one was around and approached her.
“What on earth happened, Yuki?”
The moment he spoke to her after revealing his presence, black pillars emerged from the ground, encircling them. The pillars joined overhead, creating a structure akin to a birdcage, confining the two within.
“W-What is this!?”
Regulus was perplexed by the sudden turn of events.
Then, Yuki slowly turned toward Regulus and spoke.
“I’ve finally found you, Mr. Student Council President.”
The voice was vastly different from the previous one, no resemblance at all. It was a slightly high-pitched voice, not yet having fully transitioned, but unquestionably a male voice.
“That voice, could it be…!?”
“Yes, exactly!”
With a clap of Yuki’s hands, smoke billowed around her, and from within emerged Ruisha, disguised in the uniform of a female student. The dependable appearance of the Student Council Secretary was nowhere to be found.
“Now, since wearing this attire is embarrassing, let’s wrap this up swiftly!”
