Volume 8 Chapter 3 Senior’s Determination
A hundred fireballs poured down, aimed at Ruisha.
It was a terrifying sight, resembling nothing short of a rain of fire.
Yet, despite the circumstances, Ruisha had a smile on his face.
“Here I go… High Stone Barrier, superior rock defense!”
When Ruisha activated his magic, the ground in front of him cracked open, and from the crevice emerged a massive wall of rock, shielding him from the rain of fire.
Seeing this, his opponent Richard gritted his teeth.
“You can use the earth attribute too? Just how many types of magic attributes can you use!?”
People are born with a natural affinity for certain magic attributes. Of course, with extensive training, one can learn to use attributes they aren’t naturally inclined towards… but it takes considerable time and effort.
Given the already short lifespan of the human race, honing one’s affinity magic is the basic approach to magic acquisition for humans.
For a student, having mastery over two or three attributes is considered quite impressive. However, the young boy before him was exceptional.
“Based on the pre-battle intel, I knew about fire, lightning, ice, and water… but being able to use earth in addition to those is downright unfair, bordering on cheating!”
Richard had thoroughly researched Ruisha for this day.
He had observed almost every previous duel by physically attending or speaking with the defeated students.
Everything was geared towards winning today.
“Come on, Ruisha! I know this won’t be enough to defeat you!”
He called out, and amidst the swirling dust, Ruisha emerged.
It seemed the rock wall he had created had successfully blocked all the rain of fire.
“It seems I’ve kept you waiting.”
“No worries. The winning formula is already in place.”
“That’s exciting…!”
Saying this, Ruisha dashed towards Richard at high speed.
Seeing this action, so predictable, Richard couldn’t help but let a smile escape.
“Haha, I’ve studied the fact that you favor close-quarters combat. I’ll win this match!”
Richard chuckled in his mind.
Bring out the opponent’s full strength, defeat it head-on, and settle the fight in close combat. That was Ruisha’s winning pattern. Thanks to his research, Richard knew what would give him the highest chance of success.
“Now’s the time to strike! This is the ultimate opportunity for victory as you confidently charge in bare-handed!”
The magic Richard unleashed, a hundred-fire barrage, was just a prelude for this moment. While Ruisha was focused on that magic, he set a trap along a straight line between Ruisha and himself.
The magic’s name was “Invisible Sky Thunder – Clear Air Mine.” True to its name, it was an invisible floating bomb.
It only exploded if you got very close, and the blast radius was narrow, making it a difficult magic to land a hit with. However, its power stood out significantly among the magic Richard could use.
“Come on! The victory is mine!”
Completely unaware of such schemes, Ruisha finally stepped into the explosion range of the bomb.
At that moment, the seemingly empty space distorted, and it seemed it would explode… but before that, Ruisha swiftly plunged his hand into the distortion, firmly grabbing the bomb.
“What…!”
Surprised by this unexpected action, Richard’s eyes widened. Ignoring him, Ruisha crushed the bomb in his hand. With a pathetic “poof” sound, the bomb dissipated, failing to explode.
“Eh, wha-what!?”
Caught completely off guard by this unforeseen turn of events, Richard couldn’t contain his surprise and blurted out in disbelief. The composed demeanor he had held up until now had evaporated, and his eyes widened while his mouth hung agape.
Meanwhile, Ruisha continued to disable bombs one after another, steadily closing the gap between him and Richard.
“W-what’s happening…!?”
Ruisha’s actions were rather simple.
Various magic effects, such as sensing-type bombs, contained intricate magical sigils within them. These magical sigils were like blueprints for spells, becoming increasingly difficult to activate as they grew complex, but they could imbue various effects. However, such complex magic also had the drawback of losing its effect with the slightest flaw.
Hence, Ruisha interfered with the bombs, neatly removing the sigils responsible for triggering the explosions. This rendered even the most potent magic useless—a gun with no bullets.
Taking extra precautions, Richard had constructed intricate magical sigils, but it backfired.
Ruisha, with his mastery of top-tier magical manipulation among the human race, could nullify a magic of that level, blindfolded.
“If you’re coming, then come!”
Raising his fist and approaching, Ruisha stood his ground and prepared to counter without flinching.
Understanding that emerging victorious in close-quarters combat would be challenging, but as an upperclassman, he couldn’t afford to show his back to lower-grade students.
“Your strong!”
Ruisha’s iron fist ruthlessly struck Richard’s face, and he fell dramatically, scattering in defeat.

Volume 8 Chapter 4 Lunch
“Wow, today’s opponent really had some strength, Captain. Truly befitting of the top-grade students,”
“Yeah, no kidding. I’m amazed there was someone that strong. Munch, munch”
As they savored their lover’s bento, Ruisha replied to Wolf.
It was noon, after finishing their morning classes, and they were seated at a six-person table outside the school building, having their lunch.
The members were Ruisha, Wolf, Sharo and Iris. The usual group.
Apart from Ruisha, the other three were enjoying the bento’s they had made themselves. Surprisingly, Wolf, who seemed rough at first glance, was good at cooking and sometimes brought in elaborate dishes.
In front of Ruisha were the bento’s made by Sharo and Iris. Both in terms of quality and quantity, they surpassed what he was eating. Every day, the two of them competed to make high-quality dishes.
Wolf also wanted Ruisha to taste what he had made, but he was too scared to participate due to the intimidating aura with which the two of them presented their bento’s every day.
No harm in not tempting fate. It could be said that his judgment was correct.
“Yeah, it’s delicious today too.”
On the other hand, Ruisha, whether luckily or unluckily, was happily munching on the two bento’s without noticing any of this.
Unaware that the two girls were glaring at each other, sparks flying.
“Heh, the Captain is, as always, quite the character…”
Watching that whirlpool of love and hate from a third-party perspective, Wolf muttered, looking tired.
As the four spent their usual mealtime like this, a certain person came to visit.
“Hey there, Ruisha, sorry for interrupting your enjoyable meal.”
“Munch, you…”
Gulp. Ruisha swallowed what was in his mouth and looked at the visitor.
He recognized the person who had come to visit.
“Richard-san, it’s been a while.”
“Yeah, sorry for showing up like this.”
The person was Richard, a third-year male student whom Ruisha dueled with earlier that morning.
The injuries he had suffered from the battle seemed to be healed with recovery magic, but his right cheek, where he had been punched, was swollen. Bruises and swelling were harder to heal with magic compared to cuts and wounds.
Of course, if it were a recovery mage with extraordinary abilities, it wouldn’t be an issue. However, the school’s medical staff didn’t quite reach that level.
“I didn’t come for revenge, so rest assured. After being thrown so satisfyingly, I’m not really in the mood for that.”
Addressing the three, excluding Ruisha, who were giving him stern looks, Richard explained.
The three chose to believe him, at least for now, and stopped glaring at him. However, they remained cautious, ready to enter combat mode at any moment.
Richard noticed this, but since he genuinely had no intention to fight, he confidently took a seat across from Ruisha.
“Now, first, let me apologize for challenging you to a duel out of the blue. I’m sorry.”
Saying this, he bowed deeply.
“Oh, it’s fine. It was fun to fight after a long time.”
“No, in truth, a fair duel should be arranged with mutual agreement on time and place. The way the duel was initiated this time was an ambush, and it’s hard to say the conditions were fair.”
Richard persisted in his stance.
However, Ruisha remained steadfast.
“I’ve trained to be ready for a fight at any time. So, it’s okay with me. In fact, you don’t even need to challenge me to a duel, surprise attacks are fine.”
Ruisha boldly declared, causing Richard to mutter to himself, “I lost completely.”
Losing not only in strength but also in mental composure, not a trace of sarcasm emerged.
“Heh, I even take pride in losing to you. So, consider this a kind-hearted warning. You’ve already caught the attention of the student council. Be extremely cautious.”
“The student council?”
“Yeah, be on your guard. The student council here is a gathering of the most eccentric individuals in this school. Even against someone like you, they won’t be easy to handle.”
With these words, Richard informed Ruisha and then stood up, walking away.
“The student council…?”
Ruisha murmured to himself as he watched him leave.
