Volume 7 Chapter 62 Shield of the Kingdom
In the grand hall, Knight Captain Eckel and the demon minister Granz engage in a fierce battle at the center.
Eckel’s subordinates, two knights, and the prince’s attendant, Ibuki, were trying to support Eckel when they found an opportunity, but the level of the battle far surpassed their capabilities, making it impossible for them to intervene.
“I knew Eckel-san was strong, but I never expected it to be this intense…”
Ibuki muttered while watching the battle unfold before him.
Eckel skillfully wielded his sword and shield, adeptly blocking Granz’s attacks, which clearly surpassed his own strength and magical power. Sometimes he dodged, sometimes he blocked, and sometimes he narrowly evaded.
There was no wasted movement in each of these actions. Ibuki was truly impressed by the artistry of a master.
“Gahaha! For a mere human scum, you’re putting up quite a fight! Well, then, let’s pick up the pace!”
Granz’s fist gained even more momentum. Its speed was so high that it seemed as if the fist was disappearing to an ordinary person.
――― Yet, even in such a situation, Eckel remained calm.
“…………!!”
He continued to skillfully handle the attacks in a detached manner, as if he were a machine, without uttering a word.
This was the strength of Eckel Promenade, also known as the “Shield of the Kingdom.”
However, Granz wore a smug smile, despite all his attacks being defended.
“Your defense, how long can you keep it up? It’s quite a sight. No matter how much skill you possess, you’re nothing but a fragile human scum, and your endurance won’t last long!”
Granz’s attacks were being blocked, and Eckel hadn’t been able to counterattack at all while simply defending. If this continued to be a one-sided defense, it was clear that Granz, who had the advantage in stamina, would win.
Granz was confident of his victory and had an ugly smile on his face. However, Eckel, who had been silent until now, suddenly opened his mouth.
“I see… I’ve got the gist of it.”
He muttered as Granz’s fist struck his shield. At that moment, he swung his large shield vigorously to the side, deflecting the fist!
With a sharp metallic sound—Gackiiiiin! Granz’s right fist was forcefully deflected, and the impact was so intense that his fist spasmed and became immobile. Granz quickly swung his left fist, but like the right one, it was deflected by Eckel’s large shield and rendered motionless.
Normally, just being deflected wouldn’t immobilize one’s arms. If that were the case, Eckel must have used some kind of technique. Granz had an inkling of that technique.
“You… could it be that you can use ‘Parry’!?”
“As expected of the experienced warrior Granz, familiar with ‘Parry.'”
Parry. This technique wasn’t magic or energy manipulation.
It involved swiftly swinging the shield just a moment before the opponent’s attack landed, neutralizing the attack and inducing further paralysis. It was an extremely high-level technique that didn’t use any magical power. Instead, it relied on perfect timing, angle, force, and everything being at the best possible moment to be effective.
“Impossible, to think someone can use ‘Parry,’ said to be usable only in training, in a real battle!”
Granz was astonished by this fact, sweat forming on his forehead. Mastering Parry to such an extent was a difficult feat.
With a calm demeanor, Eckel approached him.
“I am human, the weak race as you say. My lifespan is short, my strength and magical power inferior to yours. However, that’s precisely why I innovate. To not lose, to protect what’s important. I’ll overcome any trial for that.”
“You… you dare…”
As Eckel, emitting an overwhelming determination, closed in, Granz was utterly petrified. Despite being larger, stronger, and faster, he couldn’t envision a way to defeat the human before him.
Yet, Granz was a seasoned soldier, no matter what. He rallied his trembling heart and attempted his final counterattack.
“Don’t… Don’t come near!!”
With his arms disabled, Granz created a fireball from his mouth and aimed it at Eckel, unleashing it.
This was a high-tier magic, “Transcendent Flame – Vol Fire.”
Under normal circumstances, even shielding oneself wouldn’t save from being engulfed by the intense heat of the fire.
However, such magic didn’t affect Eckel.
“Perfect angle, perfect timing… I’m Prepared.”
Eckel muttered as he focused on the fireball, pulling it close until the last moment, then swiftly slammed his shield!
“Parry!”
At the perfect timing, the shield, slammed just right, cleanly deflected the fireball straight back, bouncing it toward Granz who had released it.
“You! I won’t be defeated by a pathetic human…!”
Unable to move his arms, Granz couldn’t defend himself and took his own magic head-on, suffering severe burns all over his body. He was so badly injured that parts of his body were charred. Losing the strength to stand, he collapsed on the spot.
Eckel approached him, looking at the pitiful Granz, and spoke with a tone of finality.
“It seems you’ve turned into charcoal, just like you deserved.”

Volume 7 Chapter 63 King’s Light
Thanks to the efforts of Knight Commander Eckel, the royal castle was successfully reclaimed from the clutches of the demons.
The knights, having dealt with the demons that had set up the barrier, found their remains scattered around the castle, causing the surrounding barrier to collapse.
With the knights embarking on a counterattack against the demons, the situation swiftly began to favor the kingdom’s side.
Some of the knights aided the adventurers, while others hunted down demons hidden among the common folk.
Their involvement swiftly tilted the precarious balance in favor of the forces from the capital.
Unaware of these events, Uracan found himself in dire straits.
“You useless lot…! Can’t you even kill these human scum!?”
“Yet you can’t defeat a young brat like me either. It’s quite unimpressive to demand things of your subordinates that you can’t do yourself.”
“What did you say…!?”
Uracan, belittled by Ruisha, turned red with rage.
However, he restrained himself from blindly swinging his fist in anger. It seemed he still retained some semblance of reason amidst his fury.
“Damn it, I have to become the new Demon King…!”
With these words, Uracan clutched his head.
Seeing him like this, Ruisha made a significant decision.
“Certainly, we might need a new Demon King. If we leave things as they are, another villain like you might aspire to become a Demon King.”
Upon hearing Ruisha’s unexpected words, Uracan brightened up.
“S-so, you’re saying you’ll allow me to become the Demon King?”
“There’s no way. I can’t let someone like you become the Demon King.”
Saying this, Ruisha stared strongly at Uracan with his golden shining left eye and made a firm declaration.
“I will become the new ‘Demon King.’ I, who am nothing but the disciple of the irreplaceable Demon King!”
Seeing Ruisha declare this, Uracan’s skin tingled, and his legs trembled slightly.
He remembered this sensation. It was the sensation he felt when he saw the Demon King, Testarossa, three hundred years ago.
Even though the age, species, and even gender were different, the figure of the young boy in front of him seemed to overlap with the Demon King from that time.
“Are you going to interfere again, Testarossa?!”
Uracan shouted, spreading his large wings and taking to the sky.
Ascending about twenty meters, he raised his right index finger towards the sky and began gathering magical energy at that point.
“I don’t need the descendants of the hero, vampires, or the likes of you with insolent eyes! Prepare to meet your doom!”
The immense magical energy gathered at the tip of Uracan’s finger transformed into black flames. These flames gathered and condensed, ultimately forming a massive sphere of flames.
The highly condensed black flames were like a small sun, so intense that even Ruisha and the others, who were at a distance, could feel the heat. This magic was the most powerful spell Uracan could unleash, capable of obliterating the entire clock tower where Ruisha and the others stood.
“If you run, the clock tower will collapse, and there will be a massive loss of life. Even if you manage to counter with magic, the aftermath will likely be fatal for the two injured women. So, what will you do, new Demon King? Can you somehow handle this situation?”
Uracan taunted Ruisha with these words. Indeed, what he said was not wrong. Even if they managed to counter with magic, the clash of this magnitude of magic would generate an incredible shockwave. Ruisha might stand a chance, but the heavily injured Sharo and Iris wouldn’t survive.
However, even in such a despairing situation, there was not a trace of despair on Ruisha’s face.
Because he had something more reliable than anyone else the power of his two mentors residing within him. Bright light that could illuminate even the darkest of darkness was present within him.
Ruisha gathered all the remaining magical energy in his body into both of his hands, transforming it into a shining golden light. This magic was the emblem of a king that only a Demon King could use the light of the king that commanded all ‘demons.’
“It’s futile no matter what you do! Consume everything and engulf in the twilight sun, Izephia!”
Uracan’s all-out maximum magic was unleashed towards Ruisha. The black flame sphere, with a diameter of ten meters, slowly and surely flew towards Ruisha and his companions.
“What kind of magic is this…”
“I can’t believe he possesses this much power…”
Sharo and Iris braced themselves for death in the face of such overwhelming magical energy.
However, Ruisha, alone, stared straight at the mass of flames without averting his gaze. He then swiftly unleashed the gathering golden light from both palms towards the mass of flames.
“Magic Radiance Cannon, Magi Blast!”
The gathered mass of light in Ruisha’s hands was released, forming a colossal pillar of light.
The pillar of light collided straight into the black flames, but the black flames were much larger than the pillar of light. It was obvious to anyone who would win this magical clash.
Yet, despite the situation, Uracan’s face was pale for some reason.
“This… that magic is…!”
If that were truly the legendary magic only the Demon King could use, it would be catastrophic. Thinking this, Uracan quickly fluttered his wings, attempting to move away from the spot.
But Ruisha wouldn’t allow it.
“You won’t escape. I’ll defeat you here!”
As Ruisha poured even more power into his magic, the pillar of light gained momentum. Slowly engulfing the black flames, it began to break down and dispel Uracan’s magic.
The Magic Radiance Cannon was a magic designed against other magic. Its effect was the disintegration and dissolution of magic and magical power. In the face of this magic, any magic would lose its power. Truly a magic befitting the one who commanded all ‘demons,’ a privilege reserved only for the Demon King.
The magical brilliance cannon swiftly disassembled Uracan’s magic, directing its point towards Uracan, who was attempting to escape. The speed was tremendous, and the heavily injured Uracan had no way to dodge.
“Don’t… come!”
Uracan exclaimed with a despairing expression.
In response to him, Ruisha declared with a cold expression, “Taste it, for that is the king’s light you so desired.”
Engulfed by that light, Uracan lost all his magical power, and he plummeted in front of Ruisha and the others.
