Volume 7 Chapter 26 Closed road
Meanwhile, Burn dashed through the city at full speed, carrying the unconscious demon on his shoulder.
“Move aside! I won’t stop even if I collide!”
Shouting amidst the crowded streets, he earned disapproving glances from the residents, but he couldn’t afford to care about that now. If he hesitated here, it could cost their lives.
“Haah, haah… Alright. Almost there.”
Gasping for breath, Burn moved towards his destination, the royal castle.
The task entrusted to Burn by Ruisha was to visit the castle and explain to Prince Yuri what had happened, seeking the cooperation of the Royal Knights.
That’s why he was carrying the captured demon. Taking a demon, who was normally prohibited from leaving, would add credibility to his story.
The crux of this mission lay in whether he could meet Yuri.
If he could meet Yuri and explain the situation, he believed his friend would trust him and act immediately.
However, getting smoothly past the castle guards was not going to be easy. Burn, to put it lightly, didn’t have a trustworthy appearance.
No matter how much credibility carrying the demon might give, if they didn’t believe him, he might end up being captured as a suspicious individual. If that happened, it could result in a significant number of casualties.
That was something he absolutely had to avoid.
“Ruisha and Wolf are giving their all. I can’t fall behind…!!”
Whispering to himself, Burn strengthened his resolve, put power into his legs, and just as he picked up his pace… Clang! His head collided with something hard like a wall.
“Ouch…! What the…!?”
Falling on his backside from the impact of the collision, Burn, who had indeed been cautious about not running into people or buildings, rubbed his still shaking head. Yet, he couldn’t understand why he had hit something, given his precautions!?
While he was still shaking his head from the impact, he opened his eyes and looked around. To his surprise… there was nothing there.
“What? Is there nothing here? What was that shock just now?”
Baffled, Burn gets up and tries to figure out what the shock was.
Cautiously, he goes back to where he had collided with something moments ago. As he reaches out, his fingertips touch something hard like a wall.
It’s invisible, but there’s definitely something like a wall. Burn realizes he collided with this.
“This is… a barrier magic? But for what purpose?”
Having heard about barrier magic from Ruisha, Burn quickly understood that the wall was a barrier.
But why a barrier magic in the royal castle? Could it be that the kingdom, having already understood the situation, strengthened its defenses?
Burn contemplates with a question mark floating above his head. Like Wolf, he’s not good at moving his head around.
On the other side of the barrier, a figure resembling a royal castle guard is approaching. They’re probably on patrol, walking around cautiously.
“Oh! You’ve come at just the right time.”
Thinking of asking what’s going on, Burn pounds on the transparent wall and calls out loudly to the guard, “Hey!!” However, the guard doesn’t seem to hear Burn’s voice or even glance his way.
“What? Can’t hear me? Well, then, there’s no helping it. Advanced Blast Magic, High Bomba!!”
Fed up, Burn activates a blasting magic aimed at the wall. KABOOM!! A deafening explosion echoes as the transparent wall bursts. A significant impact should have hit the wall, but there isn’t a single crack.
“…Seriously, this magic I can’t break through? Just how robust is it? But at least with this much noise, they should definitely notice.”
Thinking this, Burn looks towards the guard. However, surprisingly, the guard hasn’t even glanced in Burn’s direction.
In fact, they’re yawning and walking sleepily. It doesn’t seem like they heard the explosion, and they don’t appear to be ignoring it either.
“No way…! Could it be this is also a perception-inhibiting barrier!?”
If it was just a solid barrier, they should have noticed from the explosion earlier. This makes Burn realize there might be an additional barrier with perception-inhibiting effects. If that’s the case, not only can’t they hear the explosion, but they can’t even see Burn from inside. This kind of magic layering two effects is called a double barrier.
“…I can’t handle this alone. I didn’t want to do this, but I have no choice but to rely on someone.”
Saying this, Burn takes out a small tube with a string attached.
Pointing the tip upwards and pulling the string, a small fireball shoots out with a pop, emitting a red flash in the air and a small explosion.
“Alright, this should do.”
Burn mutters this and sits down on the spot to take a short break.

Volume 7 Chapter 27 Two little people
Let’s rewind a few minutes.
There were a pair of young men and women walking along the bustling streets of the commercial district.
Dressed in the uniforms of a magic academy, they didn’t seem to have any particular clear objective, often stopping by various shops and then moving on. It appeared to be a typical student date.
While not an uncommon sight, these two shared a common trait.
That trait was their short stature. Both of them were only about 140 centimeters tall. For male students, especially, this height was quite unusual.
“Hmm, I can definitely sense some curious glances,”
Chisha Rockholms, a male halfling of the dwarf lineage, as the passersby cast their inquisitive eyes on them. Halflings, though short, had nearly the same features as humans, so they were often perceived as peculiar humans rather than a different species.
That’s why Chisha often hung out with shorter human students. It resulted in fewer curious glances directed at him.
For this reason, Chisha had grown accustomed to engaging in conversation with the female student, Kazaha Homandena, who was standing beside him. Among the female students, she stood out for her particularly short stature and proved to be a very pleasant companion.
At first, that’s all he used to talk about… but before he knew it, Chisha had developed feelings for her.
If asked why, Chisha would also find it difficult to respond. Somehow, within the shared time, those feelings sprouted and had now grown so significant that they couldn’t be ignored.
This after-school date was the result of Chisha mustering his courage and saying, “Hey, um, after school, do you have time?” to Kazaha, making it a reality.
Kazaha, not suspecting that Chisha could harbor such feelings for her, casually agreed, saying, “Huh? I’m free today, so sure.” However, their classmates, sensing Chisha’s feelings somehow, were on edge and nervously listening to their conversation.
So, the two of them were engrossed in a shopping date, but Chisha’s determination seemed to miss the mark, and their relationship didn’t seem to progress much.
During this date, out of nowhere, Kazaha stopped and muttered softly,
“…the atmosphere feels a bit off.”
“Huh? Did I say something weird!?”
In response to the sudden words, Chisha felt flustered and reflected on his actions. He hadn’t done anything particularly odd, so why!?
Chisha’s mind was in turmoil, verging on panic.
Seeing Chisha in this state, Kazaha couldn’t help but chuckle.
“No, no, Chisha, it’s not about us. When I mentioned the atmosphere, I meant the overall atmosphere of the kingdom.”
Upon hearing this, Chisha breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness, if she had said the date atmosphere was bad, he might have skipped school that day.
While Chisha was relieved, Kazaha’s comment about the kingdom’s atmosphere bothered him. What could have happened?
“The kingdom’s atmosphere is bad? What do you mean?”
“Well, something’s off since this morning with the little bugs in my place. Some are continuously sounding the alarm. This is the first time for something like this.”
Kazaha had countless insect-like creatures living within her.
Among them, the smallest insects were trembling in fear. Despite Kazaha’s reassurance, they didn’t calm down.
For Kazaha, who had a long-standing relationship with these insects, this was an unprecedented occurrence.
“Hmm, could it be that the insect-like creatures are on alert due to the demons who arrived in the kingdom yesterday?”
“That’s possible. There was nothing like this yesterday.”
Kazaha worries as she strokes the trembling insect on her arm. However, the insect’s trembling doesn’t cease.
Observing this, Chisha begins to contemplate seriously.
If something unfavorable is about to happen, it’s almost certainly due to the demons. However, if the insects were normal yesterday, it means they aren’t reacting to the demons themselves.
In that case… the only other possibility is that the insects are frightened by what the demons are planning to do.
Perhaps a large-scale magic or ritual; the insects might be scared and cautious of what the demons are planning.
If that’s the case, it’s dangerous. Sweat beads form on Chisha’s forehead as he arrives at this thought.
“For now, it might be a good idea to consult with Ruisha. He might know something.”
Saying this with a serious expression, Chisha makes the suggestion.
