Volume 7 Chapter 24 Concealed malice
“Damn it, still can’t find them.”
In the bustling commercial district of the kingdom where people still throng the streets, Wolf was searching for the hidden demons, blending cunningly into the crowd. Even for someone like Ruisha, it would take time to spot them amidst the multitude of people. That’s why Wolf took it upon himself to locate the infiltrating demons.
Standing downwind, Wolf desperately sniffed the air, attempting to pick up the scent. Persisting in this effort, he finally detected the desired scent among the myriad of smells.
“Hmm? This scent!”
Once found, it was just a matter of following the trail. Darting through the crowd as if slipping through, Wolf quietly approached the target. When an opportune moment arose, he kicked the target with all his might, shoving them into the alley.
“Ugh! That hurts! What the heck!?”
The man, suddenly kicked and bewildered, appeared to be an ordinary human to an onlooker. However, Wolf’s keen sense of smell assured him that this man was no human.
“Geez, you really went through some trouble. Thanks to you, I have to deal with this hassle!”
Muttering in annoyance, Wolf advanced towards the man. With the main street at his back, the man had no escape.
“I’ve got no time, I’ll make you sleep.”
“W-Wait a moment! What are you accusing me of? Are you hitting an innocent person!?”
The man stubbornly claimed to be human. However, Wolf ignored such pitiful excuses and swung his arm up, delivering a powerful punch with all his might.
“….Heyah!”
A forceful straight punch with a powerful thrust from his hips landed squarely on the man’s face, producing a resounding thud. No matter how resilient a demon might be, taking a beastman’s punch to the face was no trivial matter. The man was sent flying backwards and his head collided with the alley wall, leaving him motionless and groggy. Wolf momentarily felt a pang of worry, thinking, “He’s not dead, is he?” But then he noticed the twitching in the man’s fingertips and sighed in relief. It seemed he was just unconscious.
After a while, horns and a tail began to emerge from the unconscious man. Wolf’s nose had been right all along.
“Phew, that’s one down. How many more are there?”
With no knowledge of how many demons were blending into the crowd, Wolf couldn’t afford to rest. Moreover, he needed to ensure this unconscious demon didn’t escape. The challenges were mounting. However, both Ruisha and Burn were out fulfilling their crucial roles.
So, he couldn’t ask for their help. He had to handle this obstacle on his own, or he’d have no face to show Ruisha.
“Now, first things first, how should I deal with this guy?”
Binding him with ropes was out of the question. Even restraining a magic-savvy demon for an extended period with iron chains or the like would prove difficult.
“Hmm…” Wolf pondered, his mind racing. Yet no matter how much he thought, his head only grew hotter, and no good solution came to mind. Lost in thought for a while, a familiar scent suddenly wafted into Wolf’s nose.
“This scent…!”
Immediately, Wolf dashed out and, bursting from the alley, spotted the individual in the crowd and hurriedly called out to them.
“Hey! Over here!”
“Hmm? Who’s that?”
Responding to Wolf’s call, the individuals turned around. Well, to be precise, it was more appropriate to call them a group of people.
They turned and, upon seeing Wolf, approached him with joyful expressions.
“Hey! What’s up, Wolf? Isn’t your big bro with you today?”
“Yeah, the Captain’s not here. But more importantly, things are a bit tough right now. Can you lend a hand?”
Hearing this, the three of them, members of the adventurer party ‘Jackal’—put on serious expressions and spoke to Wolf.
“Tell us what’s going on. If it’s for a good cause, we’ll gladly lend our strength!”

Volume 7 Chapter 25 Sharing
The adventurer party ‘Jackal.’
This is the trio of adventurers that Ruisha met in the dungeon not too long ago. They fondly regard Ruisha as an older brother. Even after returning from the dungeon, they frequently met Ruisha, going out for meals together and receiving magic lessons.
Naturally, through such interactions, they became acquainted with Ruisha’s friends. Particularly with Wolf, who often accompanied Ruisha, they had met several times and had developed a close bond due to their shared admiration for the same person.
“What in the world happened, Wolf?”
“Well…”
After being able to meet with the trio of Jackal, Wolf explained what had occurred. He knew they weren’t exceptionally strong, but he also recognized that they were more clever than him. So, he humbled himself and asked if they could lend their wisdom.
“Normally, I’d want to handle this on my own, but unfortunately, I can’t afford to do that. Could you lend me your strength?”
Seeing this, Max, the leader of Jackal, grabbed Wolf’s shoulder and lifted his head.
“Don’t be so stubborn, Wolf. We’re brothers, and if you’re in trouble, we’re more than happy to help.”
Saying so, Max grinned and gave a thumbs up, while his two companions behind him nodded in agreement. Witnessing this, Wolf felt a warmth in his eyes. Until a little while ago, he couldn’t have imagined that someone would treat him so kindly.
“Thank you… thank you…!!”
“Heh, what’s with the tears? You really are just a kid.”
“I-I’m not crying! Just got a little dust in my eye!”
The Jackal trio teased Wolf as he rubbed his eyes. Despite feeling a bit annoyed, Wolf couldn’t hide a small grin.
“Heh, alright, just some dust in your eyes, we’ll go with that. Anyway, let’s move on. Ghim, any ideas?”
Max directed the question to Ghim, the thief of the party skilled in the rogue profession. Though his combat abilities were lower than Max’s, his dexterity and depth of knowledge often led to devising strategies.
“As for the sudden explosion of the demon Wolf mentioned, it’s likely a ‘curse.'”
“A curse?”
Unfamiliar with the term, Wolf asked in surprise.
“Yeah, ‘curse’ is a kind of technique similar to magic. It’s not surprising if you’ve never heard of it, as very few have the ability to use it. Even now, it seems to be wielded by a few select demons and humans.”
“Wow, I had no idea.”
“Unlike magic, curses are known for their complexity. They activate based on certain conditions, and breaking the curse often requires special means. An opponent who can use this is quite troublesome.”
“I see… but what should we do?”
Having grasped the clue of curses, Wolf still found himself at a loss, holding his head in frustration.
Seeing this, Ghim grinned and pulled out what seemed like a piece of paper and a small vial containing liquid from his pocket.
“Fear not, I anticipated something like this and carry ‘Curse Unbinding Talismans.’ With these, I can easily dispel simple curses. And this liquid here is the adventurer guild’s special ‘Sleep Be Gone Elixir Z.’ Even a Gigabuffalo can snooze for three days straight with this. With these two, neutralizing the demons will be a piece of cake.”
“R-Really!? That’s amazing! You have everything, don’t you!”
With shining eyes and an envious gaze, Wolf exclaimed. Ghim, while maintaining a composed demeanor, had a smirk playing on his lips. It seemed he was quite pleased.
“So, can I leave the curse to you, Ghim?”
“Count on me, Max. Wolf and I will handle the ones hiding in the town.”
“Got it. Then Marl and I will head to the guild. There’s bound to be something we can do there.”
“Yeah, take care. Let’s go, Wolf.”
“Yes, leave the fighting to me!”
Having determined their respective roles, the four parted ways. They set out to fulfill their duties to overcome this crisis.
