Volume 12 Chapter 6 Let’s go on an adventure
A few days after the completion of the magic potion.
Preparing for their next journey, Ruisha and his companions gathered in an open area within the royal castle grounds.
There, their airship, Blue Sky Empress, was docked. This airship, which they had received from the swordsman Chrome, would take them to Argos, the hidden village of the serpentfolk, the Lamia.
“But to think you’d find a way to get there so quickly… That’s impressive. Honestly, I’m surprised.”
A figure who had come to see Ruisha off praised him.
Kevin Crusoe, the adventurer.
He was the one who had provided Ruisha with information about the Lamia village. Several parts of his body were still wrapped in bandages. However, his injuries seemed to be healing well, as he had fewer bandages than the last time they met. Given his constant ventures into dangerous adventures, his recovery ability far exceeded that of an ordinary person.
“But are you really sure? About letting us go ahead first?”
Ruisha asked apologetically.
Originally, the information about the Lamia village had been gathered by Kevin. Ruisha had merely been given that information.
Feeling it unfair to go ahead before him, Ruisha had tried to invite Kevin to join them. However, Kevin declined.
“Adventuring is all about whoever gets there first. Since you found a way to get in, it’s only right that you go ahead. Besides, look at me—I’m still injured.
Not to mention, I can’t even use the method you discovered. So don’t hold back.
Finding the Lamia village was my father’s lifelong wish… But hey, there are plenty of other adventures waiting for me.
This one, I’ll leave to you.”
Like Wolf, Kevin struggled with magic control, making him unable to use the magic potion.
That meant he couldn’t enter the village the same way as Ruisha.
So, Kevin chose to step aside and focus on recovering from his injuries.
“I believe this is fate. That village chose you, not me… So go.
All I ask for in return is a good story.”
“…Understood. Thank you, Kevin.”
Realizing that Kevin’s mind was set, Ruisha accepted his words and shook hands with him.
With a firm grip, the two parted ways.
Ruisha then turned to his other friends.
“Take care, Ruisha. I’ll look after Palom for you.”
“Yeah, thanks, Chisha. I’m counting on you to watch over everything while I’m gone.”
Ruisha said this to Chisha before turning his gaze to Shion, who stood beside her.
“I never expected you to actually find the location of the Lamia village. I’m surprised. I wonder what kind of place they live in… I’m curious myself.”
“Then, would you like to come with us, Shion? You might be able to use the magic potion too.”
“Hmm, that’s not a bad idea…”
At Ruisha’s suggestion, Shion seemed to consider it for a moment, but then he shook his head and declined.
“No, I’ll pass. It does sound fun, but I don’t think this is my time to step in. You guys go ahead and enjoy yourselves.”
“? Alright, understood.”
Ruisha didn’t quite understand what he meant, but he accepted his decision nonetheless.
After all, not understanding this peculiar senior was nothing new.
Ruisha turned once more to Kevin, who had provided them with valuable information, and called out loudly in farewell.
“I’ll definitely come back and tell you all about the village!”
“Yeah! I’ll be looking forward to it!”
Turning his back on his friends, Ruisha boarded the airship.
The engine roared to life, and the vessel slowly lifted into the sky.
Now fully accustomed to piloting the airship, Wolf skillfully took control of the helm, and with a steady hand, he set their course for their destination—
The hidden village of the Lamia.
◇ ◇ ◇
“At this rate, we should arrive by early afternoon.”
Ruisha murmured while gazing at the scenery flowing past outside.
Before him lay a map, marked in two places.
One was their departure point—the royal capital.
The other was a forest located to the northwest of the capital.
“I can’t believe the Lamia village is this close. I thought it would be much farther away.”
At Sharo’s words, Ruisha nodded.
The northwestern forest was relatively close to the royal capital.
It would take a few days, but even a carriage could reach it.
Compared to their past destinations—the neutral nation of Sanctria or the port town—this journey was considerably shorter.
Since they had been told the Lamia village was a hidden settlement, they had naturally assumed it was located in some distant land.
“It is indeed a nearby forest… but given the circumstances, it makes sense why it’s never been found.”
Iris, who had been listening to their conversation, traced her finger over the map and pointed at the forest.
“This forest spans the border between human and demon territories. Unauthorized border crossings are strictly forbidden, so few would dare to approach.
And more importantly… this forest is also known as the ‘Forest of the Lost.’ It’s a peculiar place.
Only a reckless fool would willingly step inside.”
As a vampire, Iris was well-versed in matters concerning demons and their lands.
She also had extensive knowledge of the “Forest of the Lost”—the place they were heading toward.
“The ‘Forest of the Lost’… huh? Before we arrive, can you tell us more about it?”
“Of course. The ‘Forest of the Lost’ is a mist-covered woodland.
The fog is dense with magic, making it difficult to detect anything through magical perception.
Additionally, due to magnetic interference, compasses do not function within it.
Once inside, it’s said to be impossible to determine your direction.”
“A forest where neither compasses nor magic detection work… that’s incredible.
But if it’s that difficult to navigate, it makes sense that the Lamia village is hidden there.”
“Yes, I never expected them to be so close to the demon territory… it was a blind spot.”
Iris’s fellow vampires had also conducted investigations into the Lamia, yet they had never managed to uncover even the slightest trace of them.
The Lamia’s ability to keep their existence hidden was exceptional.
“Even with the magic potion, there’s still a chance we could be seen as enemies.
It won’t be easy… but I know we can do this.
Let’s do our best.”
At Ruisha’s words, Iris and Sharo nodded.
With renewed determination, they continued their journey toward their destination.
