Volume 11 Chapter 2 Onslaught of Malice
“What’s with that island… trees are growing underwater…”
“That’s not all, there’s air too. What on earth is going on?”
The island sinking into the seafloor had something akin to a membrane of air, just like the ship Ruisha and the others were on.
Who could have done this, and for what purpose? As they pondered this, a sudden loud voice echoed throughout the ship.
“E-Enemy attack! Enemy attack, Captain!”
“What?! Being attacked underwater!?”
“I don’t know! Just look below, please!”
“Below?”
As instructed, they looked under the ship, and to their surprise, something like octopus tentacles were protruding from within the sunken ships.
But these were no ordinary octopus tentacles. Firstly, the size was on a completely different scale.
Octopus tentacles of an extraordinary size, large enough to easily coil around the ship, were growing from the seafloor by dozens and hundreds, reaching out towards the ship.
“…This is bad.”
Understanding the gravity of the situation, Cindy swiftly issued instructions.
“Activate the magic engines at maximum output! Swing the ship and charge into the island, shaking off those tentacles!”
In the underwater environment with no wind, they couldn’t proceed with sails as they would on the surface. Instead, the ship was equipped with something that could convert magic power, called the “magic engine,” into propulsion force.
Using it at maximum output would put a considerable strain on the ship’s hull, but they had no luxury to be concerned about that.
“Hold on tight!”
“Eek!?”
The Glowblue sped through the underwater at an incredible speed.
Assistant Captain Mac Evans skillfully maneuvered the ship, evading the tentacle attacks. However,
“Damn! We can’t keep this up forever!”
The ship was under immense strain due to the movement with the magic engine. Pushing too hard could cause the ship to snap in half from the middle. If that happened, all the crew would be thrown into the sea.
Drinking mermaid tears would protect them from the water pressure, but they would likely be caught by the tentacles before that.
“I guess we have no choice but to charge in…!”
Following the captain’s instructions, Mac steered the ship towards the mysterious underwater island. However, the tentacles blocked their path, seemingly anticipating their move.
“Oh no…”
Mac hurriedly tried to steer, but it was too late. Expecting the worst-case scenario, Mac was about to act, but there were two figures dashing forward, refusing to allow it.
“I’ll handle the right side! Cindy, take the left!”
“Sure, ordering me around takes some nerve. Fine, I’m in!”
Ruisha and Cindy unsheathed their swords simultaneously and attacked the approaching tentacles.
“Take this, Dimension Slash!”
“Stand back, Surging Wave Slash!”
The two immensely powerful slashes cleaved the giant tentacles in half.
Amidst the excited cheers of the crew, the ship continued to move deeper into the underwater.
Ruisha returned to his companions temporarily to ensure everyone’s safety.
“You did great, Captain!”
“Thanks, Wolf. I’m glad everyone seems to be okay.”
After confirming the safety of Wolf, Sharo, and Iris, Ruisha realized that Viness was not present.
“Hey, where’s Viness?”
“Hmm? He was there just a moment ago.”
Looking around, Ruisha spotted Viness walking unsteadily towards the outside of the ship.
“Hey, Viness! Be careful!”
“What are you doing! It’s dangerous!”
Ruisha tried to stop him from going outside the ship. However, his strength was no match, and he was dragged along as he continued towards the ship’s exterior.
“Stop… I said stop!”
Ruisha instinctively threw Viness with all his might, slamming him onto the floor.
“Oof!” With a groan, Viness, his face pressed into the floor, rubbed his cheek and got up.
“Wait, what was I… huh? What was I doing?”
“Thank goodness. You’re back to your senses.”
Though relieved, their respite was short-lived as the ship suddenly jolted.
“We’ve been hit on the hull! There’s a hole!”
“We’ll seal it up with sheer determination!”
“That’s too reckless!”
Cindy and the crew’s voices could be heard in the distance. Ruisha felt that they were in a desperate situation.
“Anyway, Viness, stay conscious and steady. You’ll be okay.”
“Y-Yeah, got it.”
Thinking that Viness would be fine now, Ruisha tried to return to Sharo and the others.
They were desperately holding onto the handrails, trying not to fall from the rocking ship.
“Sharo! Iris! Are you okay!?”
“Ru! We’re alri—”
At the moment the two tried to respond to Ruisha’s call, countless tentacles struck the hull of the ship.
“Wha—!?”
The ship spun, jolting from side to side, causing their vision to blur with each rotation. Ruisha instinctively crouched, digging his fingers into the floorboards to anchor himself, but the impact shattered the boards, unable to withstand the force.
“Damn…!”
Having lost his support, Ruisha felt like he was about to be thrown from the ship.
“Ahhhh!?”
It wasn’t just Ruisha, his companions, the pirates, everyone was reaching their limit. This was bad; they all felt they were about to be thrown into the sea. Acting on this, Mac, the vice-captain, pressed the emergency boost button attached to the ship’s wheel.
“I won’t let everyone die!”
The ship rapidly accelerated. Thanks to Mac’s quick thinking, the GrowBlue gained speed drastically. Just before everyone was thrown off the ship, the GrowBlue managed to enter the membrane of air surrounding the island.
However… shortly thereafter, everyone was thrown out of the ship and scattered.

Volume 11 Chapter 3 Skeleton
“Hmm… where am I?”
Rubbing his pounding head, Ruisha woke up.
The place where he had awakened was a sandy beach at night. Why am I in a place like this? He tried to recall, his memory reaching back.
“Um, I remember going into the sea, and then… being attacked by octopus tentacles… what happened?”
Perhaps due to the strong impact, his mind wasn’t functioning well.
Even so, he desperately tried to remember.
“That’s right. I went into an underwater island. Huh? But this is just a normal island…”
As he thought this, he looked up at the night sky.
A pitch-black night sky devoid of a single star spread out before him.
“Huh? Not a single star? Why?”
While staring at the sky, Ruisha realized.
What stretched before him was not the sky but the sea. Endless, pitch-black sea. The deep sea. He understood that this was undeniably the destination.
“I can breathe normally and it doesn’t seem any different from outside. But let’s be prepared, just in case.”
He confirmed that the Ozone Tree gum and the mermaid’s tears he received from Cindy were safe and made them easily accessible.
With his preparations in place, he began searching for his companions.
“Although this island is quite large. It would be nice if I could detect magical energy.”
Ruisha immediately attempted magical energy detection, but it was quickly interrupted. Something like mysterious interference waves hindered him, preventing him from detecting anything.
“Darn, what’s this? I can’t detect anything like this. I guess I’ll have to search on foot the old-fashioned way…”
Reluctantly, as he was about to enter the island, the sand at his feet started to move.
“Hmm?”
Wondering what it was, suddenly from the sandy beach, skeletal hands emerged. Startled, Ruisha exclaimed, “Whoa!,” and fell on his rear.
Ignoring him, the bones revealed their entire body. Ruisha recognized the figure.
“Skeleton…!”
A monster with a body entirely made of bones, a skeleton.
They inhabit graveyards and the like, attacking living beings, making them ferocious monsters.
Though they may look thin and weak, the undead like them are incredibly resilient and strong. It’s a common story for novice adventurers to fall victim to undead creatures like skeletons and zombies.
“Bring it on!”
The skeleton aimed the tip of the sabre it held towards Ruisha. The skeletal expression was hard to read, but it seemed to be smiling in some way.
“Gagi, gi…!”
Stepping in quickly, the skeleton lunged at Ruisha.
Ruisha was slightly surprised by the speed, but he easily dodged it. Indeed, the skeleton was a ferocious monster. However, Ruisha would not be outmatched.
“There!”
Evading the sabre, Ruisha kicked the skeleton with all his might. The skeleton broke apart and scattered, tumbling onto the sandy beach.
Ruisha let out a breath and was about to leave.
“G-gagagi…!”
Surprisingly, the skeleton revived from its scattered state. It reassembled and raised its sabre again.
“To think it would come back together even when scattered like that. I underestimated it…!”
Determined to make sure it couldn’t revive this time, Ruisha proclaimed he would scatter it more. Then, the sand started to stir again, and another skeleton emerged.
“Hmm?”
A third, a fourth skeleton, and more continued to appear. Seeing this, Ruisha quickly turned and fled at high speed.
“I can’t keep fighting like this!”
Shouting so, Ruisha raced through the mysterious island alone.
