Volume 11 Chapter 16 Voyage to find out
Cindy’s old memory.
“Hey Grandma! There was someone saying bad things about Captain Bat again!”
“Oh my, is that so?”
She was an ordinary girl living in a port town, and she loved her grandmother.
Whenever she had free time, she would visit and listen to various stories.
Among those stories, her favorite was the tale of ‘Pirate Captain Bat.’ However, the version she heard was a little different from what was generally known.
“They say Captain Bat ran away! But that’s not true!”
“Yes, that’s right. He was a brave warrior of the sea.”
Cindy would jump into her grandmother’s arms.
When she did, her grandmother would always gently pat her head. Cindy loved it when her grandmother did that.
Cindy’s grandmother was Captain Bat’s daughter.
However, she had only met her father, Bat, a few times.
Bat was always on voyages and rarely came home.
To make matters worse, when Cindy was still very young, Bat disappeared from public view.
“Thank you, Grandma. I’ll definitely accomplish it.”
The path of a pirate was not an easy one.
A continuous onslaught of hardships. However, with her inherent strength and charismatic appeal that attracted people, she overcame them.
Having good comrades was also significant. Right after setting sail, she found a comrade in Mac Evans, who became her vice-captain and complemented her lacking aspects.
And so, she crossed the Seven Seas and finally arrived at its end.
To the pirate king, her great-grandfather, whom she had longed to meet.
“…I was happy. I knew Captain Bat didn’t really run away, after all. I was glad to know you fought to protect the precious sea and your family! Yet… yet don’t give up in a place like this! Be the proud grandpa until the end!”
Cindy poured out her feelings.
There was a glimmer in her eyes. She knew she was saying something very messy. But even so, she couldn’t help but convey those feelings.
After hearing Cindy’s thoughts, Bat remained silent for a while, then spoke.
“…I see. So, you were safe.”
Bat, who had been at the bottom of the sea all this time, naturally didn’t know if his family was living safely. He entrusted that to his trusted subordinates, thinking they would be fine, but there was always worry.
Not only were they safe, but they followed him all the way down to the bottom of the sea.
There was nothing happier than this.
“I see, she has a granddaughter… I see…”
He stared intently at Cindy.
Certainly, her face bore a slight resemblance to the daughter buried deep in his memories. If you looked closely, her eyes and some other features were quite alike.
A warmth surged deep within his chest.
It had been a hundred years since he felt this way.
“I still have something to protect…”
If Ku-Ruu were to rampage, it would endanger his descendants.
That was unacceptable. He must absolutely prevent it.
A flame of determination bubbled up in his heart.
The timid heart that had dominated Bat’s emotions had already vanished without a trace.
“My apologies, Cindy. I’m fine now.”
“Great-grandpa…”
Bat, who had placed his hand on Cindy’s head, patted her gently.
The way he patted her head was somewhat reminiscent of how Cindy’s grandmother used to do it.
“Marcus, is the ship ready?”
“Uh, y-yes! We’re ready to set sail anytime, Captain!”
In response to the captain’s words, the crew member Marcus happily replied.
The fearsome captain from that time had returned. There was nothing happier than this.
“Prepare to depart immediately. This is our final battle, and we’ll make it grand!”

Volume 11 Chapter 17 Unsealing
“You all, set sail! Prepare for departure!”
Skeleton Marcus shouted, and skeletons emerged from everywhere, starting the work.
Then, a black-hulled ship appeared from the forest and landed on the sea.
The Empress of the Sea.
The ship that was once so feared was named the ‘Black Elizabeth.’
It was the mightiest pirate ship that had led Captain Bat to become the Pirate King.
“This is truly spectacular…!”
As she watched the legendary pirate ship float on the sea, Cindy murmured.
It felt like she had wandered into a world of a picture book. Thinking that,
“Captain!”
She heard a voice from behind.
Turning around, she saw her crew members rushing towards her.
“You guys! You’re alive!”
Cindy smiled with joy.
Her companions looked a bit tired but didn’t seem to have any serious injuries. It appeared that everyone was safe.
Cindy spoke to Mac Evans, the vice-captain who was at the forefront of the crew.
“I’m so relieved. You all made it through safely.”
“Haha, I was actually captured by the skeletons. I thought I might be done for, but thanks to the captain reconciling with the skeletons, they released me.”
“I see… that’s how it was.”
Cindy wiped her eyes, visibly happy.
But she couldn’t dwell in sentimentality forever. There was still the final battle ahead.
“By the way, have you seen my ship? I hope it’s not damaged…”
“If that’s the case, please take a look at that.”
Prompted by Mac, Cindy looked out to the sea.
And there, her beloved ship, the GrowBlue, emerged from the shadows of the island. Her face brightened at the sight.
“The ship was picked up by the skeletons. I heard the situation, Captain. You’re going to fight, right? So, you need a ship.”
“Heh, I’m proud to have such skilled crew members. Are you all ready for the fight!?”
In response to Cindy’s words, her subordinates energetically shouted, “Aye aye, Captain!”
Their determination had long been set.
“…Looks like they’re fine over there too.”
Ruisha watched their reunion from a little distance.
And then,
“Ru!”
“Ruisha-sama!”
Familiar voices reached his ears.
Turning his gaze in that direction, he saw two figures running towards him.
“Sharo! Iris!”
Ruisha’s face lit up upon seeing the two dear figures.
The two who ran towards Ruisha hugged him tightly, rejoicing in their reunion. During this moment, Ruisha felt something sticky on Iris’s clothes, but he thought it wasn’t the time to mention it.
“I’m so glad! Both of you are safe!”
“Hehe, there’s no way we’d be defeated so easily, right? Right, Iris?”
“Yes, Sharo is right.”
The three of them rejoiced in their reunion.
Nearby, Cindy’s ship arrived.
Then, a person jumped off the ship and landed near Ruisha.
“Heave-ho…!”
Thud! The one who had jumped down was Wolf, who had come to this island with them. His clothes were dirty, but he didn’t seem to be injured.
“Wolf! You’re safe!”
“Hehe, the boss is lively, which is great.”
The two rejoiced in their reunion.
Now, everyone who came to the island had gathered. They could depart anytime.
“How have you been, Wolf?”
“I fell to the island with the crew and fought the skeletons. I went into the skeleton’s stronghold to rescue the captured crew members. There, we received news that the boss and Captain Bat had reconciled.”
“I see, it must have been tough for you too.”
Ruisha, safely reunited with his friends, explained to them what had happened.
Captain Bat, the island, Cindy’s secret.
And above all, about the creature called Ku-Ruu.
“…Is that octopus creature really that dangerous?”
“I saw it too, and that thing is an unbelievable monster. Just thinking about it gives me chills.”
In response to Wolf, who hadn’t seen Ku Ruu, Sharo replied.
“By the way, there were small octopus monsters on this island. I wonder if they’re related to Ku Ruu.”
Iris spoke while recalling the creature that had covered her in slime.
Then, a person came over to them.
“Ah, those are Ku Ruu’s minions. It’s surprising you all made it safely after encountering them.”
As everyone turned around, there stood Captain Bat, the Pirate King.
He was a legendary figure like one from a fairy tale. Except for Ruisha, the members were nervous as they hadn’t really spoken to him properly before.
“Minions, you say?”
“Yes. Although sealed, it created minions using two methods to interfere with the outside world. One was through brainwashing using a special kind of electromagnetic wave. The other was creating a clone by severing its leg. The minions created using the latter method would consume nutritious things outside and try to deliver that nutrition to the main body. Our main job was to stop that.”
“To think it could do such things even while sealed, that’s an incredible vitality…”
“Indeed. It caused us a lot of trouble for a long time.”
As Bat spoke, he looked at the sea spreading above.
“But it’s all coming to an end now. We’ll lift the seal on this island, return it to the sea, and defeat it there.”
While saying this, Bat took out a green shining gem.
Seeing it, Ruisha and the others exclaimed, “Ahh!” in astonishment
“C-Could this possibly be the legacy of the hero!?”
“Oh, right. I recall you were searching for this.”
Bat replied casually.
When he found out that Ruisha was after it, he tried to stop him. It was only natural to prevent the legacy of the hero from falling into others’ hands; if it did, there was a possibility the seal on Ku Ruu could be undone.
However, now that Ku Ruu’s seal was broken, this gem had become unnecessary for Bat.
“Uhm, excuse me! Could we have that gem, please!?”
Ruisha exclaimed with great urgency, making Bat slightly flustered, saying, “O-Okay?”
“I don’t really mind, but why do you want something like this? Are you after someone you want to seal away?”
“That’s…,”
Ruisha hesitated.
The goal was the reverse of the seal, to release the Demon King and the Dragon King, but that wasn’t something he could easily talk about. As he pondered how to answer, Sharo interjected.
“I want it.”
“Oh, really, miss? Doesn’t seem like it’s just because you like gems…”
“Well, I don’t dislike them. But the reason is different. I’m a descendant of the hero.”
“I see…”
Bat looked at Sharo and chuckled somewhat playfully.
Then, he flicked the gem with his finger and handed it over to Sharo.
“Fate is an interesting thing. To think that the descendant of the hero would come to our aid at this moment.”
“I feel I’ve done wrong by you. To repay that favor, I’ll fight with all my might too.”
“Hmph, I’ve held grudges against heroes, but I won’t blame their children for it. Well, I’m counting on you. Let’s defeat it properly this time, not just seal it… Together.”
“Yes, indeed.”
Saying so, Sharo and Bat shook hands firmly.
Though their origins and upbringing were different, their connection through the hero Orger felt like a strange destiny.
“Captain! Both ships are ready to set sail!”
A voice from Bat’s subordinate on the ship could be heard.
It seemed like the preparations for the fight were complete. Bat turned to Sharo, the descendant of the hero’s legacy, the “Slumbering Emeraldite-Dormitory Sapphire.”
“Miss, please release the seal on this island. Do you understand how to do it?”
“…Yes. I can sense it when holding this stone, how to use it.”
“I see. Then, go ahead and do it with a flourish.”
Sharo looked at Ruisha.
Noticing her gaze, Ruisha nodded as if encouraging her.
Having dispelled her doubts, Sharo firmly grasped the gem and then released the island from its hundred-year slumber.
“Release!!!”
Crack!! A sound like glass breaking resonated throughout the island.
It was the sound of the seal placed on the island shattering. Then, rumbling echoed through the ground, and the island began to rise.
“It’s been a while since I’ve seen the outside. It’s nerve-wracking.”
Bat said with an entirely calm demeanor.
His last fight that had spanned a hundred years was about to come to an end.
