Volume 1 Chapter 8 Demon Dragon Knight Ruisha
= Ruisha’s Perspective =
After 300 years of rigorous training by Tes-neechan and Rio in the Infinite Prison, I finally received instruction on all the magic and qigong techniques they could teach me.
The next morning, I woke up in excruciating pain, as if I had been branded with a searing iron.
“What in the world!!!” I screamed.
My screams echoed within the confines of the Infinite Prison, and hearing my cries, Tes-neechan and Rio rushed to my side.
“What’s wrong, Rui-kun!?”
“Is it an enemy!? I’ll annihilate them for you!!”
As they rushed over, concern etched on their faces, I conveyed, “M-my chest hurts…” Tes-neechan and Rio hastened to remove my clothing, revealing my bare chest, competing to do so.
“This is…!!”
Both of them exclaimed in astonishment as they gazed at my chest. What on earth had happened?
Curious, I looked at my own chest and saw a small, unfamiliar emblem glowing there. The emblem was slightly smaller than the palm of my hand and emitted a faint blue light. It looked cool, but what was it?
“What is this…?” I asked.
In a more serious tone than usual, Tes-neechan replied, “It seems the time has finally come. This is called the ‘Shoumon.'”
“Shoumon? What’s that?”
“The Shoumon is an emblem that appears on individuals who have reached a certain level of strength, often referred to as masters. Congratulations, your training is complete. You’ve done well,” Tes-neechan said, gently patting my head.
Her touch was warm, kind, and slightly ticklish, filling me with a sense of happiness.
“Thank you, Tes-neechan. By the way, does this emblem have any significance?”
“Yes, this emblem bears the title bestowed upon the individual, written in ancient language, indicating their occupation or job.”
Saying that, Tes-neechan lifted her clothes to reveal an emblem on her waist. Unlike my glowing blue emblem, hers radiated a golden hue.
“Mine is called the ‘King’s Emblem.’ It’s the ultimate title reserved for those worthy of being above even the Shoumon. In ancient language, my King’s Emblem is inscribed as ‘Demon King.'”
Next, Rio opened her mouth and showed the golden emblem on his tongue.
“Mine’s this. Needless to say, it says ‘Dragon King.'”
Come to think of it, I had heard about this. In human societies, a ‘king’ usually referred to the ruler of a nation. But among demons and demi-humans, it seemed to carry a different meaning.
In their context, ‘king’ meant an absolute powerhouse. I see, only those with King’s Emblems could become kings.
“Hey, hey, what does mine say?” I asked.
I had been studying ancient languages and could read a bit, but the emblem on my chest was hard to make out. What was my job or occupation, I wondered?
“Let me take a look.”
Rio examined my emblem intently. I wondered what kind of job it represented, and my heart raced with anticipation.
“Uh, what is this… No way! What in the world?!”
Rio exclaimed in astonishment upon seeing my emblem. What was going on? What had she found?
“This emblem… it’s the emblem of the ‘Demon Dragon General’! I can’t believe it actually exists!”
Demon Dragon General? What could that possibly mean? I glanced at Tes-neechan, hoping for more information, and saw that she too wore an expression of amazement.
“The title of ‘Demon Dragon’ allows you to harness the power of both the demon and dragon races. It’s said to be a legendary existence that only exists in stories. I can’t believe Rui-kun has become one… You’re amazing!”
Tes-neechan said this while hugging me tightly. It seemed like my job was quite remarkable. Hooray!
“Um, so does that mean I’ve become a ‘Demon Dragon General’?”
“No, not quite. Your emblem’s radiance is still somewhat dim, so you’re more like a ‘Demon Dragon Knight’ for now.”
Well, that’s a bit disappointing. But I was still happy to have both the titles of Demon King and Dragon King. Plus, I had a clear goal to strive for now.
“So if I train more, I can become a Demon Dragon General, right? Alright, I’ll do my best!”
However, when they heard my determination, both of them fell silent. Wait, did I say something strange?
“Hmm? What’s wrong?” I asked.
Reluctantly, Rio replied, “Listen, Rui. Your power won’t increase any further within the Infinite Prison.”
“Wait, what?”
Rio’s words left me in shock. Why not?
“At your current age, Rui, your abilities have reached their limit. To become stronger, you need to leave the Infinite Prison and physically mature,” Rio explained.
“I see…”
Inside the Infinite Prison, time didn’t pass, and that had worked against me as I was in the midst of my growing years.
And now, I understood.
I couldn’t get any stronger here. That meant…
“I have to leave the Infinite Prison, don’t I?”
In response to my words, both of them nodded with a tinge of sadness on their faces.
The time for parting had finally come.
