Volume 1 Chapter 4 Demon King’s Training
“Hehe♪ Well, first, let me teach you about magic.”
“Um, thank you very much!”
Day 1 of training.
First, it’s magic training with Lord Testarossa, the Demon King.
However, my magical abilities are rock bottom. How in the world am I going to improve?
Oh, by the way, I haven’t mentioned yet that my magic skills are terrible. It’s awkward, but I have to say it, right?
“Um, excuse me. Actually, my magic is…”
“You want to say it’s completely useless, right? You don’t need to say it; I can tell.”
Hit right on the mark, I flinched.
Amazing, as expected of the Demon King. She can tell just by looking.
“So, how do I train then? If I can’t even use magic for practice, how can I train?”
“Well, you have a point. That’s why you’ll start with fundamental training until you have enough magical power to use magic.”
“Fundamental… training?”
I wonder what kind of training that entails. I’ve never heard of it, but it sounds like an amazing way to increase magical power.
“Magical power is like physical strength. You won’t increase your limits unless you use it to the brink without breaking your magical vessel. So, you’ll use your magical power until you’re on the verge of death, then recover, and repeat until the brink of death again.”
“…Eh?”
Did I just hear something terrifying?
Magical power is essential for living creatures. If you overuse it, you can suffer from magical depletion and die.
“Isn’t that quite dangerous?”
“Yes, it is. But in this timeless space where we don’t age, this is the only way to increase magical power. Don’t worry; I’ll make sure you don’t actually die, so feel safe while you’re on the brink of death, okay?”
“Um…”
That’s right. I almost forgot. Despite her beautiful appearance, she is the Demon King. Human common sense doesn’t apply here.
“But wouldn’t that method take an incredibly long time?”
“Not at all. With your level… I’d say about 500 years, and you’ll become a full-fledged mage.”
“Five-hundred years!?”
I widen my eyes in astonishment.
Sure, I may be a late bloomer, but does it really take that long!?
“If that much time passes, the outside world will become an unfamiliar place!”
My parents are already deceased, but I feel sad not being able to say goodbye to the village chief who raised me this far. I at least wanted to bid him farewell…
“Don’t worry. In this ‘Infinite Dungeon,’ time flows very slowly. Spending a year here is equivalent to just one day in the outside world.”
“R-really!?”
“Yes, I’ve confirmed it with magic.”
Saying that, the older sister pats her chest confidently.
It’s the Demon King speaking; there’s no doubt she’s right.
Still, one year equals one day…
If it truly takes 500 years, that means 500 days will have passed in the outside world. I hope everything will be okay.
“I understand! I’ll do my best!!”
“Hehe. You’re a good kid.”
Saying that, Testarossa gently strokes my head.
Her gaze while doing so is kind, just like my late mother. It’s easy to forget that Testarossa is a demon when she looks at me that way.
“Well then… shall we begin? I’m sorry in advance if you really do end up dying.”
“Yes…”
With immense anxiety weighing on me, my magic training began.
