Episode 38: Taking a Break

“Oh! There’s a polar bear!”

Shizuku pointed ahead, where a white bear was leisurely strolling.

As we stood in front of the glass, the polar bear seemed as if it had been waiting and promptly dived into the water, swimming in front of us. It swam back and forth, as if providing us with a show.

“Haha, what great fan service.”

“Yeah.”

After swimming around for a while, the polar bear eventually got bored or tired and climbed back onto land. It seemed like the showtime was over.

We waved through the glass for a bit and then left the polar bear exhibit.

“Look! Juntaro!”

Shizuku, who was walking a bit ahead, picked up the pace.

I followed quickly, and there was a blue tunnel ahead.

“Wow… it’s an underwater tunnel.”

Everything except for the ground was an aquarium. It felt as if we were submerged in the water ourselves.

“Oh…!”

Something passed above us. It was a dolphin. The graceful movement of the dolphins swimming around the tank made it seem like they were flying in the sky, elegant and free.

“Dolphins are so cute.”

“They have such an adorable appearance… Oh, there’s an explanation here.”

Nearby, a signboard provided information about dolphins.

Due to their high intelligence, they are friendly, curious, and can learn tricks with the promise of a reward. Considering their adorable appearance, it’s no wonder they are so popular.

“Huh, dolphins don’t use gills for breathing.”

Shizuku, who was also reading the explanation, had a surprised expression.

I, too, read the same part and let out a surprised sound.

Dolphins apparently breathe using the hole on top of their heads, like lung breathing. I had always imagined they used gills, considering they spend most of their time swimming. But now that I think about it, they also perform tricks on land, so lung breathing makes more sense.

Seemingly done with the dolphins, Shizuku moved on to the next section.

My heart skips a beat at the sight of the cool model, SHIZUKU’s innocent side.

As we watched the outdoor dolphin show and interacted with marine life at the touch pool, we both started feeling hungry.

“We’ve been wandering for about two hours, and now it’s already lunchtime.”

We exited the aquarium and headed to the restaurant area outside.

In the area filled with amusement facilities, there was the restaurant street we were looking for. Since neither of us had any particular preferences, we decided to go to the nearest Hawaiian cafe.

“The pancakes look delicious.”

“Oh, they seem quite filling too.”

Apart from pancakes, there were also waffles, malasadas, and meal items such as chicken plates and burgers, which stood out.

All the options looked delicious in the pictures, and we were having a hard time deciding.

“I’ve been restraining myself for a while…! I’ve been on a diet for the summer vacation photo shoot, but I think it’s okay today. It would be a waste to be with you, Juntaro, and still restrict myself, right?”

Just as Shizuku said, she was about to order strawberry pancakes, plain malasadas, and a cheeseburger. I decided to go for loco moco and a mango waffle, which Shizuku was hesitating between. As for the waffle, I planned to share it with Shizuku later.

Shizuku asked while looking at the soft drink menu.

“Kona coffee is a type of coffee bean that’s quite famous.”

The beans grown in the Kona district on the island of Hawaii are called Kona coffee.

Alongside Blue Mountain and Kilimanjaro, it’s considered one of the world’s three major coffees. It’s known for its clear acidity, smooth texture, fruity sweetness, and mild bitterness. Overall, it gives a mild impression, making it easy for beginners to drink.

“If you don’t like acidity, it might be a bit challenging. But there’s no doubt it’s good coffee.”

I concluded with those words.

“Oh…! One of the three major coffees? I might try it.”

We placed our orders from the menu we selected.

Soon, all our orders arrived at the table. They all smelled delicious and whetted our appetites.

“Bon appétit.”

First, I tried the loco moco. The rich demi-glace sauce on the hamburger patty intertwined with the savory taste, creating a delightful sensation in my mouth. This is undoubtedly delicious.

It’s not such a difficult dish to make, so maybe I’ll try making it at Café Mellow next time. If I make it stylishly, it might become popular with female customers.

“Mmm! The cheeseburger is delicious!”

Shizuku smiled broadly as she savored the cheeseburger.

Her innocent appearance made me smile involuntarily.
