The Strongest Farmer in Another World ~I’m a “Farmer”, Not a Demon King! ~
Chapter 567 Lilia is back…?
“It’s not a dream, you idiot.”
Approaching the still half-asleep Lilia, I lightly tap her head.
“Huh? Why are you all dirty? If you were playing in the mud, couldn’t you stay out of my room? You’ll dirty up my clean room!”
“I wasn’t playing in the mud, and if this were your room, I’d be surprised.”
“Huh? …Eh? My room is…!”
“It’s not your room.”
I was surprised she still thought this was her room, but well, if she can say such nonsensical things, then probably nothing abnormal is happening. At least, it’s unlikely her mind has been altered, or its been replaced, or lost her memories. If someone swapped places with her and could mimic this idiocy, I might even praise them.
However, despite that, it’s probably best to check on her condition just in case. I’ve had some of my power drained, and Lilia probably had more drained than I did. So while her mind might be fine, I’m not sure about her body.
“How are you feeling, Lilia?”
“Huh? Feeling? There’s nothing wrong with me, though?”
“…Considering how much power you had drained…”
“???”
However, even after asking, Lilia just tilted her head, showing no signs of any abnormalities in her body.
“Anyway, I’ve already called the doctor…”
“Huh? Oh, really? Thanks, Granny.”
The doctor… or rather, the military doctor? Well, they’re medical professionals, but calling them doctors is fine. As I turned towards the entrance to call for a doctor, Granny, who was already there, said she had already called one. As expected of Granny. She’s lived a long life, so she’s efficient.
“So, how are you feeling? Any strange symptoms?”
“Nah! Nothing at all!”
“I see. Well, that’s good. If something were to happen to you, it would be a problem for me.”
“What do you mean ‘a problem’? There’s nothing you can do about it.”
Well, if Lilia ended up with any disabilities, I guess I’d be annoyed… Well, maybe… No, I might be, but it’s not like it’s such a big deal that I can’t handle it. I mean, it’s not like I have any romantic feelings for Lilia or anything, and we’re not even engaged… Wait? Speaking of which, wasn’t there talk of marrying Lilia? What happened with that? …Ah, whatever.
Anyway, I’m just glad everything’s okay. Yeah, that’s fine. And with that, this conversation is over.
Anyway, more importantly, if Lilia is okay, I need to resume the interrupted discussion.
“Well, let’s put the small talk aside for now. So, just to confirm again now that things have calmed down a bit, that wasn’t something caused by you, was it?”
“If I could summon something like that, it would have appeared in Karakas long ago.”
Right. If I could summon a monster tree like that on my own, I would have already experimented with it in Karakas.
“That thing just suddenly appeared, although saying ‘suddenly’ might not be accurate. You mentioned it went berserk, but why did you think that? Don’t skimp on the details; tell us everything.”
Granny sat down on the chair her attendant had brought while urging me to explain.
I feel like my explanation just now was a bit too casual, but the truth is I’m mostly speculating, and I still don’t really know what happened.
Well, let’s start from the beginning and try to piece things together.
“Even though we’re still not entirely sure what’s going on ourselves… Well, let’s start by telling you what we saw, and then you can think about it, Granny.”
With that, I decided to talk about defeating the Pope, defeating the Hero, and the subsequent events, including the anomaly and the alchemist, as well as Lilia and the flow of events.
“—That doesn’t seem likely… If we’re going to consider things as they appear, then perhaps the Pope did something to trigger the barrier’s rampage. It’s not inconceivable that the plants are influenced by that barrier.”
While seated around the table and chairs arranged by her attendant, Granny gracefully enjoyed tea and snacks while conducting discussions inside the bunker… Is this really appropriate in such a situation? …I suppose it is. It’s easier to talk with a table, and having beverages makes conversation smoother. Sweet treats help stimulate the mind and reduce mental fatigue. Yeah, it’s rational.
Meanwhile, Lilia was taken to the bunker where the doctor was for examination. Carried by the elves.
The elves must have been quite worried. Lilia didn’t even take a step on her own.
Well, as long as the discussion isn’t interrupted, let’s consider it okay. There’s no problem, and she’ll probably come back eventually if left alone.
“Yeah, it does feel like that. That barrier was originally meant to enhance the power of plants, so I think it mixed with the curse and caused that.”
It feels like the logical conclusion. But still…
“What’s with that face, Boss? Do you have something on your mind?”
It seems my thoughts were evident on my face, as Granny inquired.
“If we’re talking about worries, its very existence is a worry… Well, it’s like, I understand that it’s dangerous, but at the same time, I feel a sense of familiarity.”
“Familiarity? What are you talking about? Are you feeling affection for that monster just because they call you the Demon King?”
“As if. That’s not it.”
That monster tree belongs more to ‘evil’ than ‘justice,’ if you had to categorize it.
Some might think there’s a connection because I’m also called the ‘Demon’ King, but that’s just a nickname. I’m not actually doing monstrous things.
So, it’s not about feeling affection there, but rather feeling familiarity from somewhere else.
“Isn’t that because it’s centered around the Sacred Tree’s trunk? Could that be the reason?”
“Hmm… Yeah, maybe…?”
When it’s put that way, it does make sense, but… I don’t know, it feels like there’s something deeper about it.
“If it bothers you that much, why don’t you ask the young miss? She might know something.”
“Oh, Lilia? She should be undergoing examination right now… It’s taking a while. Should I go check on her for a bit?”
“Sure, why not? I don’t think you should leave your questions unanswered.”
With that, we got up from our seats and headed towards the bunker where Lilia was supposed to be.
The medical bunker, appropriately enough for its purpose, didn’t have a door but instead had a curtain covering the entrance.
I went to open it and stepped inside…
“Lilia? I have something to ask you, but are you still—”
“Huh? …Wha-what… Ahhh!!”
On the other side of the curtain, Lilia was completely naked, and she looked bewildered as I suddenly appeared.
Realizing it was me, she frantically searched for something to cover herself with, stumbled, and fell.
“…”
Seeing that scene, I silently closed the curtain without saying a word.
“…Sigh. Why were you naked?”
“The elves were worried about the clothes that had been soaked in curses, so they purified them.”
“Sofia… Well, I can understand the elves’ concerns.”
Sofia must have heard the situation from others and explained why Lilia was naked.
Indeed, she had been trapped in a place filled with curses, and she had been held captive in suspicious contraptions. Even with purification, there would be lingering doubts, so changing into entirely new clothes would bring peace of mind.
However, in a situation like that, I wished there had been some precautions taken, like having someone keep watch or putting up a sign while she changed. Well, I guess it’s my fault for barging in like that, even though there was a curtain.
So, while waiting outside the bunker for Lilia to finish changing, she emerged after a while with a scowl on her face.
