The Strongest Farmer in Another World ~I’m a “Farmer”, Not a Demon King! ~
Chapter 439 Consult with dad’s friends
“I guess I’ll ask Eddie and the others just in case.”
After talking to Edward, I found myself thinking about the newly built castle. So, I decided to head towards the castle.
Certainly, some of the key members like Eddie and Emil should already be staying there.
Considering that their one of dad’s close associates, I thought they would have to be involved in that, but I understood that security for the castle was necessary.
After all, this is Karakas. No matter that the castle was built by kings and former bosses, there might be thieves if there are vulnerabilities in security, especially if there’s a chance to profit. Even though it’s not yet fully inhabited, most of the household items have been moved in, so it’s not like there’s no valuable stuff.
Moreover, the map of the castle’s interior can be turned into money, and if you find even one hidden passage, it could be a lucrative find.
…Well, even if you find such a passage, without the strength, you might fall into a trap and end up dead.
That’s why, with not many people living here yet and security being lax, we have to deal with those who think they can steal from us.
Therefore, there are already people staying overnight in the castle faster than the owner of the castle, me, and dad’s group. Among them are former knights who are close associates of my dad.
“What are these guys doing?”
Thinking it would be good to find someone to consult with, I headed towards the castle. Upon asking the plants, they mentioned that the individuals I was looking for were at the training grounds, so I proceeded in that direction.
However, when I arrived, there were dozens of men, and a significant portion of them seemed to be moving slowly. Are they practicing with weapons?
I vaguely recall hearing that performing combat actions with slow movements is quite challenging, but is that what they are doing?
Thinking so, I couldn’t quite make out what they were doing with my untrained eye. Well, it might be because I’m looking at it from a layperson’s perspective.
“Hey, young master? As you can see, it’s training. Even knights have to deal with this kind of thing.”
While pondering this, one of the guys in the vicinity seemed to notice me and ran over, addressing me. Well, it’s not like there’s any urgent matter that requires someone of high rank to come rushing over.
“Yeah, now that you mention it.”
I replied with these words to the man who approached me – Emil.
Well, these guys are knights too, so they must engage in training from time to time. Although I haven’t really seen them train properly until now.
Well, the mansion in the East District was spacious, but there wasn’t a place like a training ground. The few larger spaces available were used by me. So, there might have been times when they couldn’t train.
But here, since there is a proper space for training, there’s no need for them to worry about me, and they can train freely.
However, even with that, when I see these guys training, I can’t help but feel a sense of discomfort. It’s not like I’ve only seen them in a lazy state all the time… I wonder why?
“Isn’t that reaction a bit harsh?”
“Well, it’s just that you guys are ‘knights,’ right?”
“Well, if someone asks us if we really seem like knights, we can’t help but tilt our heads. Still, we are officially the ‘knights’ of this country, part of the ‘knights’ order.”
“Knights, huh…”
Well, let’s assume that Emil and the other close associates of my dad are part of the ‘knights’ order. After all, they were originally knights.
“But is that also part of it?”
However, when it comes to that, I find myself tilting my head a bit.
“Ah… That one is different. The situation there is a bit different, or rather, you could say it’s more like a ‘warrior’s guild.'”
Emil said this while turning to look in the direction I pointed. In the direction I indicated, there were men with a fashion and demeanor that didn’t seem like typical ‘knights.’ According to Emil, they are not part of the ‘knights’ order but rather the ‘warrior’s guild.’ What’s up with that?
“Warrior’s guild? The difference between that and the knights’ order is… well, it seems blatantly different.”
I can’t quite put my finger on it, but unlike Emil’s group, they engage in intense clashes, yet their movements seem random, or something like that. I can understand that they are reasonably strong, but their strength doesn’t seem to be systematic.
The guys working for me have similar combat techniques, like the ‘Volke style.’ …Well, my dad probably didn’t actually teach them.
But these guys are different. To put it nicely, it’s unorthodox. To put it negatively, it’s rough and crude. That kind of vibe.
“Yeah, that’s right. They don’t care about etiquette or manners; it’s just a force for fighting, you know? The wording might be a bit off, but that’s the idea.”
“A force for fighting… So, essentially, a mercenary force as long as they’re strong?”
“Yeah, you got it. A unit made up of mercenaries hired by the country. It tends to become something like that.”
The country still lacks military strength. In terms of pure fighting power, my dad and I suffice, but there’s a lack of a visible, easily understandable force. Besides, we can’t move every time, so this might be a way to compensate for that shortage.
They’re called ‘warriors’ rather than ‘knights’ or ‘soldiers,’ probably because they are residents of Karakas. It’s more useful to let them wield the power they already had rather than teach them the same techniques from scratch. So, they deliberately call them the ‘warrior’s guild.’
“…By the way, young master, what brings you here? It doesn’t seem like you’ve returned to the castle, right?”
“Yeah, well, that’s right. …Is dad here now?”
“Captain? No, he should still be at the main residence in the East District. The city’s renovations aren’t complete yet, and it’s easier to handle things over there. However, once this matter is settled, that place will be treated as a separate residence, and he’ll likely live in the castle.”
“I see. Well, my mother will be coming here too.”
Although we are currently using the other place, as Emil mentioned, once my mother arrives, we will start using this place. After all, this castle was built for my mother. Considering safety and convenience, there’s no reason not to use this one.
“Rieta-sama, huh?”
“Emil, you know her too?”
“Well, yeah, I’m acquainted with her, and the others who brought you here for the first time should know her too. After all, we were part of the ‘Royal Knights Order.'”
Well, that makes sense. If there were opportunities for my dad to see her, the other comrades would likely have had some chances too.
“Well, let’s talk about my mother. And, by the way, about my dad.”
“When it comes to those two… is it about your future behavior, young master?”
“Behavior? …Ah, well, I guess we do need to think about that.”
Apart from my father, who is not my real father, if my mom remarries, he will truly become my father. There are bound to be changes.
Above all, I have no intention of getting involved in the newlyweds’ relationship, so my behavior and how I interact with them will inevitably change.
But, that’s not the topic for today.
“So, it wasn’t about that. But in that case… well, what is it?”
“Right. Well, it’s about gifts for the two of them.”
“Gifts… Ah, I see. Wedding presents, right? Indeed, that’s something to ponder.”
Emil nodded in agreement, but what about him? Is he preparing something, or has he already prepared it?
“Are you guys preparing anything?”
“Well, we haven’t really discussed it, but the folks in the knights’ order seem to be thinking about something. We haven’t had any consultations, but there are idiots making strange moves, you see.”
“Strange moves?”
“It’s about Jit. Since the captain… the boss is getting married, he’s creating a restless atmosphere for some reason. He probably doesn’t understand why himself, but he seems anxious. Maybe, not being expressive with his emotions, he wants to do something, or something like that.”
“Ah… well, he doesn’t use his head too much. He probably doesn’t know what to do in situations like this.”
“That’s right.”
“So, Emil, are you planning to give them something?”
I wanted to know if Emil, even though I understood that ‘everyone’ wasn’t planning to discuss and prepare anything, had any personal plans.
So, I asked him, but…
“No, I don’t have any intention of giving them anything.”
He said that while shrugging his shoulders.
Despite his rough language, he intentionally does that, and he’s a guy who can handle manners and consideration.
It was surprising that he wasn’t preparing any gifts.
“Is that so?”
“Yeah. Well, if I had to say, I might prepare some alcohol for everyone to share.”
“Surprising. I thought you would prepare something.”
“I thought so too, but then I felt it was kinda weird. Celebrating formally like that between us seems somewhat impersonal, like building a wall. We’ve been through various things, whether successful or not. Each time, we drank, talked, made a fuss like idiots, and decided to continue doing so. So, celebrating and making noise ‘as usual’ this time seems like the best way to celebrate.”
Celebrating in the usual way is the best gift, huh…
It feels really like ‘comrades,’ and I can’t help but feel a little envious.
“…But even so, Jit isn’t stopping?”
“If everyone is not preparing anything, won’t the Captain feel lonely? Besides, if there’s at least one person who prepared something, we can make a fuss about it. Even if I’m the only one who didn’t prepare anything, it’s the same.”
Being able to laugh together is probably because they trust each other as ‘comrades.’
… Can I ever obtain such ‘comrades’?
Listening to Emil’s words, I found myself contemplating that.
“Trust doesn’t exist with just one person. It comes from having someone else, interacting with that someone else, and becoming comrades you can trust.”
He must have noticed my darkening expression. Emil suddenly spoke up.
“You, young master, have brains, strength, and money unlike us. That’s probably why you think about various things. But sometimes, it’s okay to foolishly face things head-on and have a straightforward conversation.”
“Emil…”
“I said more than necessary. Maybe it’s because the Captain is getting married. You seems confused without even realizing it.”
“…No, it’s not more than necessary.”
It really isn’t more than necessary. It’s genuinely appreciated that he’s offering advice like this.
“I’ll express my gratitude for your words once the issue is resolved. Until then, please wait.”
“I don’t know when this resolution will happen, but I’ll wait eagerly.”
“…This time, it really is more than necessary.”
“Sorry about that, young master.”
After exchanging words like that, we laughed, talked with the others, and then I left the castle, returning to the garden.
