The Strongest Farmer in Another World ~I’m a “Farmer”, Not a Demon King! ~
Chapter 312 Events of a month
A month has passed since the defeat of the Eight Heavens.
“It seems to have settled down quite a bit.”
I try looking at the entire flower garden from the top of the wall surrounding the sacred tree’s garden, but there is no particular disturbance, and the current time is flowing peacefully.
After that battle ended, what I did was a bit of movement to consolidate as a country and then training.
The tenth rank mentioned by my father at that time. In order to obtain that, I thought about various things and came to a conclusion.
Or rather, the hint itself existed from before. I just completely forgot about it until now.
I had previously cultivated Treant, created a body to serve as Flora’s vessel, but originally, the skill ‘Farmer’ shouldn’t have such an effect. However, by using the skill to change the shape of the plant, I was able to create Flora’s body.
It was probably possible because of Flora’s cooperation, but I had also thought that it was possible because I originally had the power to alter plants.
So, well, as I delved into that area, I came up with the idea that ‘Farmer’ might be able to alter the characteristics and ecology of existing plants. In other words—’breeding improvement.’
It’s not something that can be done in an instant, but the breeding improvement itself was successful. …Improvement, or perhaps deterioration.
As an experimental example, I decided to start with something simple and tried to improve wheat, which was successful.
In the experiment, it became robust and grew quickly as usual, with the quality improving normally. That itself is a wonderful thing, and I’m happy about it.
But, I felt like something was a bit different.
Certainly, improving the quality of plants is the goal of a farmer in breeding improvement, so it’s not wrong in that direction. However, I wanted something more like… changes that could be used for attack.
It’s a bit of a story about what you would be seeking in aggressiveness for wheat.
So, I continued the improvement, but no matter how much I did, there were limits to improving wheat alone.
Therefore, a little curious, and for a change of pace, I had Flora help me and synthesized a small amount of Treant just for fun.
It would be interesting if wheat grew like a tree with fruits and leaves instead of spikes, or if it became wheat that moved with its own will like Treant and grew and harvested itself, thinking along those lines.
But… I don’t know. It’s something like, the result was too unexpected. Well, certainly, it was initially an experiment seeking aggressiveness, so it’s not a mistake, but…
Oh, I can’t say for sure if it’s the ‘will,’ but there were unexpected changes in regular wheat.
That sharp thing at the tip of the wheat, the awn part, became even sharper. Moreover, with an auto-defensive function.
You probably don’t understand what I’m saying. I don’t either. Why is the phrase ‘auto-defensive function’ attached to wheat?
If someone other than me or those I approve, or someone other than the one who cultivated that wheat, tries to approach, it reacts to it, and the awn—now more like a needle—extends and skewers them.
…Strange. Why did it turn out like this? Are you really wheat?
On a whim, I decided to improve and cultivate the nearby weeds, but they evolved into plants that entangle the feet of pedestrians.
So, I decided to mix in the Mandrake I received from the old lady. After all, it’s a plant that supposedly has its own will.
I haven’t used the Mandrake itself yet; it’s planted in a corner of the garden of the sacred tree. But I got a little seed from there and synthesized it with wheat.
As a result, while the auto-function remained, now both the one I planted and anyone who touches it would cause it to explode. It’s not an explosion with flames, more like a wheat flour-like smoke screen scattered around.
Next, I mixed it with the same weeds as before, but when something living approached it, the grass began to wilt.
However, once the enemy was gone, it returned to its original lush appearance.
Perhaps, when mixed with Mandrake, it undergoes an evolution for escape or survival?
The Treant has an aggressive auto-function, and the Mandrake feels more like an auto-function suited for survival.
I still have the parasitic tree…..but I haven’t mixed it yet.
After all, it’s a plant designated as dangerous when on its own. Just thinking about improving something like that is terrifying.
I haven’t fully mastered the power of this “Breeding Improvement” to produce the desired effects, and there’s no way to tamper with it.
But well, not just cultivating plants, I’ve become able to manipulate various things.
I plan to create more different things, but well, this is the limit for a month.
In addition, I decided to earnestly train my secondary job as a ‘Thief.’
I’ve been somewhat neglecting it, thinking it wouldn’t be of much use until now, but considering it’s better to increase my strength even a little, I decided to train it seriously.
Until now, my rank as a ‘Thief’ has been at the third rank. It’s quite low, but I’ve progressed to the point of learning passive skills.
The passive skill is “Discernment.” It allows me to perceive the authenticity of objects. However, it’s not like a game where a status window pops up. It simply makes me more aware of anomalies or abnormalities occurring in objects based on my past experiences and knowledge.
By the way, my rare skill is “Deception.” It seems that when I look at an opponent, I can intuitively grasp their vulnerabilities and weaknesses.
The third-tier skill itself is “Body Enhancement.” Well, as the name suggests. However, it doesn’t enhance physical strength like those of ‘Warriors’ or ‘Swordsmen.’ While it can provide some enhancement in strength, the ‘Thief’s’ “Body Enhancement” is designed for escape or disturbance, focusing on leg strength and overall slight reinforcement.
Although I haven’t increased my tier yet while training in between ‘Breeding Improvement,’ I’ll probably advance soon. In another year, I should be able to raise my secondary job to the tenth tier.
Normally, one shouldn’t be able to say, “I can reach the tenth tier so quickly,” but since it’s possible, there’s no helping it.
But well, overall, there aren’t any fundamental issues, and peaceful times continue.
And this isn’t limited to just this flower garden. There has been no impact whatsoever, as if there was no war in Karakas. Well, even if things seem normal there, it might not be entirely peaceful. After all, people die normally even without a war. But well, if that’s considered peace in Karakas, it’s not entirely incorrect.
“Or rather, even if we say we were invaded, there’s hardly any significant damage, and no residents have died, so there’s nothing to worry about.”
My words prompted a reaction from Kyle, who was nearby. As Kyle pointed out, there doesn’t seem to be any real damage, so maybe it’s not such a big deal.
This time, it was Karakas that was attacked, not the flower garden, and since the residents didn’t participate in the fight, there wasn’t any noticeable change.
As for the damage, some parts of the wall surrounding the city and a portion of the city were broken. But even that has been repaired.
Also, a few of the guards from the old lady’s place died in the battle against the Eight Heavens who infiltrated the city. However, since they weren’t ‘residents,’ it hasn’t caused much commotion.
“Well, that’s true, isn’t it? Even so, you know, things should change. Probably.”
Even though, after that battle, the country can be considered independent, and there might be some changes, I think. But who knows? It’s not like we had a parade or anything. The city itself hasn’t changed fundamentally.
Even after gaining independence and establishing a nation, this place remains a city of criminals, and rules are disregarded within the city and its surroundings. If you go a bit away from the city, there are laws to some extent, like in a normal country.
But in Karakas, no one reproaches or punishes anything. It’s a truly free city. On the flip side, it means that no one protects you. To survive, you have to become strong, and if you try something and fail, there’s vigilante justice, and you might end up dead.
Well, that’s probably why everyone is still alive. I thought that formally announcing, “We’ve become independent,” might elicit some kind of reaction, but when I opened up about it, many were like, “Founding a nation? Well, do as you like?” It’s easy, but it feels off. It’s like things are going smoothly, but there’s a sense of being unexpectedly thrown off track.
“It’s quite ambiguous, huh?”
Kyle chuckles, and in reality, I haven’t deeply considered the establishment of the nation, so I don’t really feel it. After all, I’m just a figurehead king who was swept away and placed on the throne, sought for my strength alone.
The actual management is handled by Edward, and the Old lady is handling the detailed adjustments. Dad and I are just there. Maybe just being there is important, but from my subjective perspective, since I’m not actively doing anything, it’s still hard to feel the reality.
“But, the villages in between did suffer some damage from the attacks by remnants of the defeated forces. I don’t think we can say that nothing has changed around them.”
As Bell mentioned, after the battle, the villages that became part of Karakas territory were attacked by fleeing soldiers. After defeating the Eight Heavens, the retreating armies scattered in different directions to return to their territories, attacking the villages along the way.
Although we captured some of them and are using them as slaves, not everyone was caught. Given the number of enemies, it’s unavoidable.
So, those who attacked the villages emerged. However, not everyone did that; it was only a small number who had strayed from the army. Nevertheless, even with a few, it ranged from a minimum of several individuals to groups as large as two or three hundred people trying to attack the villages.
Well, those guys were killed by the Treants we planted in the villages, though.
The greatest threat of the Treants lies in their sudden attacks in an environment unfamiliar to those not accustomed to the forest, and they are also formidable in terms of strength.
After all, they are trees, right? They are undoubtedly tough, and trying to cut them with a sword is practically impossible.
Using skills might allow one to bypass their defenses, but these Treants possess a unique quality nurtured by the power of the Sacred Tree and my own abilities. Enhanced by their very nature of being magical creatures, adding two more elements to the mix makes them formidable. It’s not something that can be compared to ordinary trees.
In the end, opponents who can only become soldiers or those of a low tier are unlikely to defeat them. Higher-tier individuals… well, someone at the sixth tier or above might pose a bit of a problem, but if they had that kind of power, they wouldn’t be slumming it as a soldier.
So, the ones who attacked the villages were killed by the Treants, and even if they weren’t completely wiped out, they were repelled and that was the end of it.
Some buildings were damaged, and there seemed to be injuries, so repairs and other necessary tasks had to be undertaken.
