The Strongest Farmer in Another World ~I’m a “Farmer”, Not a Demon King! ~
Chapter 251 Volke arrives
Our town is currently under attack by some idiot-led army. I didn’t think there would be idiots stupid enough to come bother us at this point, but it seems like this particular idiot is even more foolish than I imagined.
Well, when I say “our town,” I’m not directly involved, so it’s not exactly “ours,” but you get the idea.
The place being attacked now is the secret base of my adopted son, who isn’t related by blood. Its name… I don’t know if it has an official name, but it’s referred to as “Flower Town.”
That place is making a lot of money. Even though it hasn’t been a year since it was established, reports have been coming in about earning a considerable amount of gold. I expected nearby idiots to make a move, aiming for that, but I never thought it would happen.
Well, it seems the enemies had various considerations, but they underestimated us a bit. Bringing a force of just over a hundred thousand troops doesn’t mean much.
Even if it were a million, the outcome wouldn’t have changed.
They probably came for war or pillaging, but unfortunately for them, things didn’t go as planned.
Well, in a sense, is there any pillaging going on? I’m on the receiving end, not the giving, though.
“If it continues like this, there shouldn’t be a problem.”
I was watching the one-sided battle—or whatever you want to call it—from a spot slightly outside the town, leaning against a tree beyond the walls surrounding Flower town. If someone were to ask why I’m watching from there, it might not be the best explanation, but, well, I entrusted them and believed in them.
Even though I told them to take care of it themselves, I still worried. In case of an emergency, I thought I might lend a hand. Well, it seems that worry wasn’t necessary.
“Even so, just flipping over the ground on that scale is amazing, and to make plants grow from human bodies… they’ve really grown into quite a dangerous presence.”
I had received the absurd report of Vesnar reaching the ninth rank, but I didn’t know his true capabilities.
Well, considering he reached such a ridiculous rank as the ninth, I assumed he had corresponding strength, but still, facing an enemy army could pose a slight risk… or so I thought.
Normally, having someone in the ninth rank should provide a sense of security, even if an army comes. But I guess I, too, deep down, looked down on a ‘farmer,’ a non-combat profession.
I had heard stories about Vesnar fighting dragons to save his mother or facing tens of thousands of troops, but I had only known them as reports, and it hit me when I saw it with my own eyes that he could actually do such things.
But well, that’s enough. I’ve not only seen what I needed to see, but I witnessed something beyond my expectations. There’s no need to worry any further.
Instead, I need to focus on what I have to do. I left the handling of things in Karakas to Eddie and the others, but if Isaac, that guy, starts to move, I can’t just ignore him.
He’s such a pain. Isaac, the boss in the west, took up the invitation this time to attack me. I warned Vesnar that someone might take advantage of the enemies he is currently fighting and attack from somewhere, but in reality, I already knew that Isaac would be attacking by then. He’s a fool. Even if he tries to hide it, he can’t completely conceal it.
Well, he always had a problem with me from the beginning. I thought if something happened, he would make a move, and maybe enduring it until now was more surprising.
…But well, it’s just the right time now.
“I wonder what’s making him so busy…”
I don’t like troublesome things, but well, there’s no helping it.
Taking a deep breath only once, I started running towards Karakas.
From here… it’s about five kilometers. Well, if nothing happens, I should be able to get there in about three minutes even if I run slowly.
It seems like Isaac has already started moving… now, how far will he go?
After running for a while, I arrived in the city, but cries and angry shouts were already echoing from all around. I could hear sounds resembling something breaking.
Shouldn’t I have kept my composure and used my skills? Well, it didn’t feel right, or rather, I wanted to show that I could handle it without using them. Oh well.
I mean, who am I showing this composure to? It’s more of a mood thing.
“Damn it! You’re running away like a coward!”
Entering the city and heading in a vaguely appropriate direction, I heard the familiar voice of the person I was targeting, so I decided to go in that direction.
I can’t be wrong because I hear the sound of something being smashed together.
…But seriously, can’t you be a bit quieter in your rampage? It would be appreciated if you stopped since the aftermath is going to be a pain. Well, it’s not me who will handle that part, though.
“Well, if we were to fight seriously against someone counted as one of the bosses, it would be tough for us too.”
“In the first place, our goal is just to keep you occupied, so there’s really no need to go all out and defeat you.”
While thinking about the troublesome things that would follow after this commotion, I ran over the tops of buildings. It seemed I had reached the destination as I saw Isaac causing a commotion. At the same time, I also saw Eddie and Emil fighting Isaac, the boss from the west.
“Well, I’ll just ignore you and quickly destroy Volke’s stronghold! If I do that, keeping me occupied won’t matter!”
“Well, that’s true, but if we can’t keep you occupied, we’ll be in trouble. However, is it okay for you to do that? In that case, our guys will go destroy your mansion.”
“And, it’s also a bit disappointing to think that we can be dealt with so easily.”
Well, if it’s these guys, they could probably kill Isaac. It would raise the question of why they are still fighting, but probably, they are considering leaving the handling of this idiot to me. Bosses deal with bosses, or something like that.
Honestly, I don’t care who defeats him, and I think having my responsibilities increase is a hassle.
But well, there were some aspects I didn’t like about how smoothly things were going for him. So, I guess I’ll entertain him a bit.
“Hey, what’s up, you guys? Still playing around?”
Saying this, I landed behind Eddie and the others and addressed them.
“Oh, Boss. Is everything okay over there?”
Eddie probably noticed me a long time ago, but he still turned around as if he had just realized. He’s acting like he couldn’t care less about Isaac, but well, in reality, he probably doesn’t have any interest. Not to mention any sense of threat.
Emil is diligently wielding his weapon, wary of Isaac, but there’s not much force behind it. It’s just a pose of ‘I’m on guard,’ nothing more.
These guys are facing the boss from the west, but they’re too lax. Do they think I’ll handle it for them? Well, if he attacks, I’ll intercept, but that’s about it.
“Yeah. With the way things are going, there’s no way he’ll die.”
As I said this, recalling the scene I witnessed just now, the two of them started laughing for some reason.
“You’ve really become overly protective. The ‘Castle Slayer’ now acting for the safety of a child.”
“I think we knew from the beginning that there wouldn’t be any problem with the young master.”
“Shut up. You guys were probably concerned too.”
Certainly, from the perspective of my past self, it’s unbelievable to go to such lengths for a kid I picked up. I find it hard to believe it myself.
But that… I knew even without being told that I wasn’t the only one who was worried about him.
These guys each have their own circumstances. They’ve done something in the past, or they have reasons they can’t afford to fall, various things.
They were each busy enough just living their lives, but now they’re worrying and caring about others.
“Well, that’s true.”
“But, we’re not as bad as the boss, right?”
Well, recently, I’ve been thinking that I might be overly protective of him.
But you know… in my mind, he’s always a kid.
Is this what it feels like to be a parent with a child?
“…So, you’re here!”
As we were talking about such things, Isaac’s voice came from behind Eddie and Emil.
However, his voice sounded like it was trembling or something.
“Huh? …Oh, there you are. I’ll handle this, so you guys go elsewhere. For now, Jit is blocking the idiots’ way, so just do something appropriate in line with that.”
“Got it. Understood.”
“Well then, we’ll be off. We’ll leave the rest to you, Captain.”
“Yeah.”
Since I came here, there was no longer a need for Eddie and Emil, who were dealing with him, to stay. It wouldn’t be a hindrance if they stayed, but keeping them here wouldn’t be useful, so I decided to redirect them elsewhere.
Upon hearing my instructions, Eddie and Emil immediately moved without complaining… calling me “Captain,” that’s a quite nostalgic way of addressing me.
