13. Marie-chan’s Misunderstanding
After school one day a few days later, I was again summoned by Inawashiro Marie. She called me to the back of the school building, and just like last time, she came up to me… but apologized with her hands clasped together.
“Sagara, I am truly sorry!”
It was so sudden and abrupt that I was caught off guard. I was so shocked at the suddenness of events that I was caught off guard.
“I heard from Haru-cchi later on. And she said that you, …… Sagara saved her from being molested. And yet, I said such terrible things to you, I’m really sorry!”
“A–aah, …… so it’s about that.”
It seems that Haruhime had explained everything to her. As if her usual bullish attitude had gone somewhere for a walk, Inawashiro apologized to me with a sincere look on her face. It seems that she is more of an earnest person, unlike her appearance.
After hearing his apology, I nodded my head in confirmation and replied that,
“I’m glad the misunderstanding has been cleared up. Well then, on that note.”
“……Sagara?”
“What is it?”
As I was called on my way leaving, I looked back and saw Inawashiro looking back at me with a tearful look on her face.
“That umm …… are you mad at me?”
It was an unexpected reaction. I had never seen Inawashiro as such weak and frail before.
“Nope, …… not really.”
“Really?”
“Really so.”
“Really, like absolutely real?”
“Really, seriously real, not joking. …… what the hell are you so meek about all of a sudden.”
Inawashiro Marie had a more resolute image in my mind.
Her dazzling blonde hair stands out even if you like it, or don’t. In both ways however, she is someone who can easily attract attention of the classroom. When she is sleeping in the classroom, I can hear several gossips pertaining to rumors and badmouthing from the surrounding classmates. Things like she has been involved in prostitution, or that she is flirting with several senior students, or some such nonsense rumors.
Not minding these insinuations, Inawashiro has established a solid position in the class.
…. or so I thought.
“That umm …… you won’t bad-mouth about me, will you?”
The words Inawashiro exacted were something absolutely opposite of my impression on her until now.
“Bad-mouth? There is no need for me to do that now, do I. Since the misunderstanding has been cleared up, and to whom am I even supposed to bad-mouth about you in the first place.”
“No, I was wondering if you would … to Haru-cchi…”
“To Haruhime?”
Ah, so that’s what you mean. I understood what Inawashiro was afraid of.
“Maybe you are worried that I’m going to bad-mouth about you to Haruhime?”
“U……n.”
Inawashiro slowly nodded.
It seems that she is also a person with feelings as well. She is thinking that if I say to Haruhume that she pried really bad to me that day, Haruhime would start hating her for that.
There’s no way that can be the case.
“I won’t even say it. First of all, there is no way that Haruhime would hate you even if I were to tell her about what happened the other day.”
“But still…”
“No, no. That’s just not possible. When it comes to Haruhime, you, as her friend should know that very well already. That she is not that kind of a person.”
“Ah, …… is that so?”
Inawashiro contemplated on my words for a while with her head down, and afterwards spoke in a rather loud and panicked voice. Somehow she had returned to the Inawashiro I knew, although a bit more cheerful than before.
“Yes, that’s right! That’s true as well! Ah, what was I even worried about? Mou, damn it all!”
Embarringly, she touched her hair and then turned to me
“It is exactly as you said. Haru-cchi isn’t that kind of person after all.”
“Yes, she isn’t. I can assure you of that.”
Saying “Un” in a loud voice, Inawashiro had a smile on her face that I don’t usually see often enough. It was a radiant expression that made me skip a beat in an instant.
As expected of the girl who is said to be among the five most beautiful girls in the school.
