Although I gave up on fighting monsters, I continue to train hard every day. After all, a strong physique is needed to be a great farmer. If I train from a young age, I can be an exceptional farmer in the future.

After finishing my usual training, I sit near the field with my back against a rock. I’m exhausted. From a distance, I hear my father calling out to me.

I shift my gaze to the direction of his voice and see him waving his hand from away. He seems to be quite happy for some reason.

As my father approaches me, I can see a big smile on his face.

“What’s the matter, Dad? Aren’t you supposed to be at the village gathering? You’re already running late, you know?”

In Machikane Village, the villagers occasionally gather and discuss matters such as the state of each household’s crops or any issues. Usually, the gathering is led by the village chief.

By the way, my father is not the village chief even though he has the largest field in the village. He was actually offered to be the village chief in the past, but he kindly declined the offer because it doesn’t suit his personality.

“Hey, Neil! We’re going to have a feast tonight!”

Dad put the bucket he is carrying in front of me with a thud. I looked into the bucket and see…

Fish!

Inside the bucket is the two of the biggest fish I had ever seen.

Seeing my surprised face, my father starts to laugh out loud. Probably hearing my father’s laugh, my mom comes out of the house.

“I thought who was laughing so loudly in our farm…eh, where do you get that from!? Fish!”

“Yeah, it’s for dinner tonight!”

It seems like everyone in the village received something. The topic discussed during the village gathering was the confirmation of the damages caused by the storm last week. It was quite a big storm, it was raining heavily and the wind was blowing really hard, but thankfully, there was only little damage to the fields and houses.

At some point, they decided to check the area around the village together, and while the villagers were patrolling separately, they noticed a change in the flow of the river a bit further away from the village.

Upstream from the river, there is a fairly large lake, so they went to check if there are any changes to the lake.

The lake is fed by spring water, and the water that springs from it forms the flowing river, which is used as a water source for our daily life in Machikane Village. They wanted to make sure there were no changes to the lake because it would be troublesome if there is something wrong with the lake. So they went to check it together.

When they arrive there, they confirmed that a new river had been formed, flowing from deep within the forest to the lake, it is a completely separate river from the river that leads from the lake to the village.

They think that due to the impact of the storm, the original river deep which is located deep in the forest might have flooded, creating a new river that flows through the forest to the lake.

When they reached the lakeside, there were huge fish swimming around. So, everyone worked together to catch the fish.

“I never knew there were so many fish in that lake. I used to swim and play in the lake when I was little, I only saw small fishes occasionally. Well, none of it matter as long as we can eat fish!”

Father chuckled happily. It’s a rare opportunity for us to eat fish in Machikane village because there is no sea near us. Also, they never thought that there were big fishes like these in the lake.

“But Dad, now that we know there are fish in the lake, does that mean we can occasionally have fish from now on?”

Dad frowns his eyebrows.

“Well, you see, we’ve decided not to approach the lake for a while.”

At first, everyone in the village was delighted by the school of fish, but upon closer consideration, they became worried about the sudden appearance of the fish.

“Perhaps the fish were originally in the deeper parts of the lake. The lake is known to be wide and deep, so it’s not surprising that they were never seen before, but the problem is, the reason why the fish suddenly appear now might be because of monsters.”

My father explained so.

Due to the storm, the river which is located in the depths of the forest began overflowed to the lake, and the monsters living in the forest river might have entered the lake, causing the fish that were in the deeper parts to flee to the shores.

Monsters from the forest river…wait a minute!

Could this be an opportunity for me to level up through defeating and hunting monsters? This might be my chance!
