Episode 35: A Girl Who Doesn’t Care About Others’ Opinions
Hime still believed in the misunderstanding that I was a *lolicon*.
I really needed to set the record straight, but unfortunately, as we arrived at school before, I couldn’t explain it up.
“O–oi! That Hoshimiya san is holding hands with a guy!?”
“Who’s that plain-looking dude? Is he her relative?”
“It kinda looks like he’s escorting her… That’s kinda cute.”
“Damn, I also wanna her escort too…!”
And as expected, our arrival was seen by the students, which caused a bit of a stir. Most people were just curious, but there were *definitely* some weirdos mixed in. That last guy? No way in hell was I ever letting him near Hime, mind you!
But more importantly—
Since Hime is an individual who easily garners attention so that can’t be helped. Also she is also used to becoming the point of attention. Maybe she grew accustomed to that, or maybe she’s just ignorant about it… nevertheless, she didn’t even care the looks given to her by the people around her.
“Yohei-kun… Does escorting me like this make you happy, as a *lolicon*?”
“Just that, I’m *not* a *lolicon* though.”
“Ehehe. If you say so, I will keep it that.”
…Hmm, she wasn’t going to make this easy for me, huh?
The tricky part was that Hime actually seemed *happy* about it. Even though it was a hard misunderstanding, she was so pleased that I felt guilty for denying it too harshly.
Well, I’d clear things up properly when I have more time. As It wasn’t *urgent* right now.
For now, I shifted the conversation to something else I’d been more curious about.
“I’ve been thinking for a time now, …Hime, you seem like a type of person who doesn’t really care about what others think about you, don’t you?”
As we changed into our indoor shoes, and were on our way to our classrooms. Even though we let go of our hand while changing shoes—but as soon as we were done, she reached right back out and intertwined our fingers again.
“Is that really so? I never noticed.”
“Un. I mean, just look at it now. How everyone’s watching you, but you don’t seem bothered at all.”
It wasn’t like she *didn’t* notice her surroundings—she was perfectly aware that people were talking about her. And yet, she didn’t care about that at all.
Even earlier, when someone had joked about me “escorting” her, she *definitely* heard it. But that didn’t stop her from grabbing my hand again, which kind of made me understand, that she simply didn’t *care*.
“Fumu~Fumu… Yohei-kun, you really do pay a really close attention to me, don’t you? The way you are concerned about me, makes me super happy♪”
But, she was oddly *sensitive* when it came to my words. Even now,the way she accepts my words as positively, and is very happy about it.
But that didn’t mean she was oblivious—if anything, the fact that she doesn’t pay any heed to her surrounding consciously, made her even more mysterious.
“Now that you mention it, you’re certainly right. I don’t really care about being watched, nor do I think much about what is being talked about me. Most probably, I think it’s just something I just got used to.”
Maybe it’s something I’ve been curious about.
Hime put her fingers besides her chin and thought of a reason with the clarity of her mind.
“Got used to?”
“Yes. Since I occasionally appear in the media, I’ve become accustomed to being stared at. No matter where I go, I always feel like a panda in a zoo… If I paid attention to every little thing, it’d be exhausting.”
That explanation actually made a lot of sense.
Thinking about it more, Hime *had* been in the public eye far more than an average student. No wonder this level of attention didn’t faze her.
It was a type of situation that my sense of “normal” can’t actually grasp.
That is why she isn’t that affected nor concerned by the eyes/attention she receives in the school.
“Muu. Unfortunately enough, we’ve arrived at the classroom… The time we could hold our hands together comes to an end. As it can’t be helped, from here on out, I’ll just sit on your lap instead.”
…And, as she is way too used to being seen, even if we’re in the classroom, she interacts closely even though we are in the classroom.
“Tell me, Yohei-kun… as a lolicon, would you be *happy* if I sit on your lap as a given? Please leave it all to me, I’ll make sure to satisfy you as much you want to be, okay♪”
Yeap. I once again made a promise to myself.
I will *definitely* correct her misunderstanding properly, no matter what.
Knowing how she doesn’t care about how the people perceive her, she was *absolutely* going to pull out something crazy in public one day.
