- The Former Holy Knight. Having Lost My Job and Childhood Friend, I Decided to Start a Dark Guild
- Chapter 56 - Fine Wine After a Deadly Battle
Seneca and I used Kano’s skill to return to the Loser’s District without drawing any attention. Given our bloodied and tattered appearance, it would have been desperate to attract attention in the royal capital, so having Kano, who had sent Lilith back to the knights, return was a relief.
We had anticipated immediate retaliation from Capone, but the usual scene of the Loser’s District greeted us: a beggar here, a junk dealer there. Well, since we defeated Grittz, it’s unlikely the enemy could recklessly retaliate.
However, this peace won’t last long. It’s certain Capone will retaliate in various ways. We need to significantly increase our guild members’ heretics and organize the security of the Loser’s District before then. For better or worse, the Michino Family has mainly earned its keep by finding lost cats and has entered a completely different phase.
As we walked, Kano said, “That lady knight, despite her severe injuries, insisted on returning to the scene. She said she couldn’t rest until she retaliated against Nadale. It was quite a hassle because of her rampage.”
“That’s so like Lilith. The battle would have been a bit easier if she hadn’t been injured.”
Despite the disadvantage of injuries, Sword Saint Lilith’s true strength is beyond what was seen. If Seneca and Lilith had been with us, overwhelming Grittz would have been easy.
“I also have a message for Don. ‘I’ll keep my promise. I’ll repay this debt someday,'” Kano added.
“That message is so like Lilith.”
Upon returning home, Sani and Sofia were there to welcome us.
“Don! It’s terrible! You’re injured!” Sani exclaimed with a worried face.
I hoisted Sani onto my shoulder as usual. “I look terrible, but I’ve recovered a bit with potions, so I can barely walk.”
Surrounded by my family, I finally felt at ease.
I had received reports from Kano about what happened at the mansion during my absence, but it wasn’t until I saw everyone’s faces that my anxiety eased.
“Sofia, sorry for causing you trouble,” I said as I sat down.
Sofia, seated in a chair, offered a gentle smile. “It was nothing at all. I enjoyed it.”
According to Kano’s report, when the Holy Knights raided during my absence, they were in the middle of a feast. They attempted to arrest everyone present at the mansion in one fell swoop. Viscount Luca LeBlanc was also arrested and even kicked by a rough knight.
Sofia, who was in charge of the feast, quickly activated her heretic skill, “Virtue of the Sexual Beast,” to immobilize all the knights. Meanwhile, Kano sent a carrier pigeon to the LeBlanc family members stationed in the royal capital, ensuring the situation was resolved.
“Hey Sofia, immobilizing the Holy Knights all at once… What exactly is your heretic skill?”
Before Sofia could answer, Sani innocently said, “It was strange. The knights fell to the ground, screaming, but they all looked pleased. Sofia-san, I want to try your skill too!”
Sofia laughed. “It’s a bit early for you, Sani-chan,” she said. “Don, it’s not good for Sani-chan’s education to talk about it here. I’ll tell you when we’re alone. You must be tired. Please take a seat and relax. Seneca-kun, bring Don some wine!”
“Sofia-neesan always orders me around. Even though I did quite a bit today, too,” Seneca remarked.
I patted Seneca on the shoulder. “You did great today. Eat a lot and rest your body.”
While preparing the meal, I carried Sani on my shoulders to the room where Nina was sleeping.
Turning on the magic lantern, Nina’s sleeping figure came into view. Her continued sleep made me wonder if she was ill, but her expression was peaceful, and her complexion wasn’t bad.
Sani jumped from my shoulder to the bedside and stroked Nina’s head. “I wonder if Nina’s hungry. Tonight’s dinner is roast chicken.”
As if responding to Sani’s words, black smoke began to emanate from Nina. In an instant, she transformed into the Demon Lord, sprouting horns. Jumping up from the bed, Manina exclaimed loudly, “Meat! Present me with meat!”
So, tonight’s main course was roast chicken, accompanied by potato stew, rye bread, and toasts made with heretic highball and cider. Taking a sip, the alcohol warmed my bones, making me deeply feel alive.
Manina, with an incredible appetite, devoured her roast chicken and even reached for Kano’s meat.
“Hey, Demon Lord, there’s more to dinner than meat. Don’t be greedy!”
“Ha ha ha! A piece of meat or two from me will soon return a hundred millionfold. Worry not! Besides, you haven’t eaten anything yet! Hand it over now!”
“No! I like to save my favorite for last!”
“Give it to me! Elf!”
“No!”
“Manina, take mine,” I offered, extending my plate.
Manina grabbed the chicken with her hands and began to eat voraciously. Chewing with her mouth full, Manina said, “King of Heretics, I won’t forget this favor! I’ll stack a hundred million times more raw meat before you!”
“No, that’s okay… It sounds like some weird meat might be mixed in… Anyway, Manina, I have something to ask you.”
“Out of gratitude for the meat! Ask anything!”
“What happened at the monastery on the day Nina’s skill manifested?”
