Chapter 14: Sudden Transformation! From the Literature Club to the Frontline of Rescue—An Unexpected Metamorphosis
Dondon-don~
A sudden knocking sound came from the door.
It had barely been five minutes since we sat down, yet that sound immediately caught our attention.
“Come in.”
After Tsunekawa called out to the person behind the door, it slowly opened, revealing a girl I had never seen before.
She first peeked her head inside, scanning the room as if checking for danger—just like a cautious little mouse. Then, hesitantly, she stepped in, fully revealing herself.
She wasn’t very tall—at least, to me, she seemed rather small. But in reality, she was probably of average height, about the same as Umika.
Her appearance was quite cute, like a middle schooler who had just entered junior high. But since she was wearing the same uniform as us, she must have been around our age.
“U-um… Is this the Literature Club’s branch?”
She asked in a small voice.
Who is this girl?
I shifted my gaze to Nakano and the others, but they looked just as confused as I was.
“Yes, this is the Literature Society’s branch. Do you need something?”
Nakano answered her question and asked why she had come.
“U-um… Sasaki-sensei told me to come here.”
“Huh? Sensei did?”
After Nakano responded, he turned to Tsunekawa and me with a questioning look, as if to say, “What the hell is going on?”
Well, Sasaki-sensei was our homeroom teacher, but I had absolutely no clue about this!
How about Tsunekawa? Judging from her expression, she looked just as lost. So that means… Sasaki-sensei must have set this up behind our backs.
“Yes, that’s right!”
The girl nodded quickly and answered. So, I decided to ask her what she needed from us.
“And? What do you need from us?”
“I have a favor to ask!”
“A favor?”
Hmm… What’s with the situation here? This girl seems to be in some kind of trouble and is looking for help from someone. And it looks like she chose us as that someone.
On top of that, if she came here under Sasaki-sensei’s orders, does that mean Sasaki-sensei specifically asked us to help this her?
In other words, Sasaki-sensei introduced us to her, saying, “Those guys can handle anything. They’ll definitely help you.”
Right? That’s what’s happening here, right?
…Sasaki-sensei, isn’t this a bit much? It’s like she’s treating us as some kind of volunteer service, handing out our help to random strangers without even asking us first.
“Sorry, but can I ask something? Did Sensei specifically tell you to come to us for help?”
Tsunekawa, who had the same doubts as I did, couldn’t help but start questioning Sasaki-sensei about it.
Yeah, this has to be Sasaki-sensei’s doing, right?
“Yes, she did. She said, ‘Those guys can do anything, so they’ll definitely help you.'”
“Thought so…”
Tsunekawa let out a deep sigh, scratching her head with a troubled look.
“Hey, isn’t Sasaki-sensei a little too decisive?”
I muttered to her.
“Well, we do owe her, don’t we? Even if this is unreasonable, we can’t exactly refuse it. Consider it repayment.”
“So, that means… we have no choice but to do it?”
At that moment, Nakano and Satohama joined the conversation.
“For now, let’s just hear what she has to say.”
“Yeah, that’s the best option right now.”
“Alright then, let’s all do our best!”
“Wait, can I opt out of this? Why do I have to get dragged into this nonsense…?”
“Misaki-kun, in a way, this is also a mission from Sensei. You do understand what would happen if you refused, right?”
If it were any other situation, I would’ve flat-out refused. But considering it was Sasaki-sensei we were dealing with…
Tsunekawa was probably right. If I didn’t go along with this, given Sensei’s personality… I don’t even want to imagine the consequences. That’d be terrifying.
“…Fine, I’ll go.”
“So, no objections from anyone?”
“I want to object, but… what’s the point?”
“Don’t worry, we’re all in this together. You’re not alone.”
After a brief discussion, we decided to hear out the girl’s request.
No—correction.
We were forced to help her.
“So? What exactly do you need us to do?”
“It’s a long story… I can’t really explain it all in one go…”
“Well then! I’ll take charge of this mission and lead everyone to success!”
Before she could finish, another voice suddenly interrupted.
Wait… I recognize that voice…
No way—
Sasaki-sensei!?
The clubroom door flew open as if shoved by an invisible force, and there she stood—Sasaki-sensei, stepping into the room with the presence of a reigning monarch.
She exuded an aura of authority so overwhelming that merely walking in seemed to command the space around her.
“So it was you who sent this girl to us, Sensei?”
When Tsunekawa asked, Sensei nodded lightly and answered.
”Yeah, I called her.”
”So, why us?”
”Because you guys are the only ones who can solve this problem.”
Saying that, Sasaki-sensei pointed her hand towards us—no, to be precise, she was pointing at Satohama!
”…You just said ‘you guys,’ but why are you pointing at Satohama-san?”
”Hmm, well, don’t sweat the small stuff. Anyway, this is about my little sister, so I have no choice but to rely on you guys.”
”Your sister? She’s your little sister, Sensei?”
I couldn’t help but widen my eyes in surprise, glancing back and forth between Sensei and the girl. Now that I looked closely, they did seem a little alike…
”Eh? Sensei’s little sister?”
”I can’t believe it…”
Nakano and Tsunekawa had almost the exact same reaction as me, their faces filled with shock.
”Sensei, she kinda looks like you indeed! Especially those cheeks, they’re just as red as yours~”
Satohama, you idiot… That’s way too rude, isn’t it? This is Sasaki-sensei’s little sister! Saying something like that, does she have no fear for her life?
”Well, whatever. More importantly, let’s get to the main topic.”
How is she letting this slide so easily? If it were me, wouldn’t I have already taken a rock-heavy punch to the shoulder from Sasaki-sensei?
…Or maybe I’m just being paranoid?
”Alright, then let’s hear the situation from Sensei and her little sister.”
Tsunekawa answered seriously before returning to her seat.
”Alright, Yuki, explain it to everyone.”
”Understood. First, let me introduce myself. I’m Sasaki Yuki, Sasaki Ayano-nee-san’s younger sister. I just enrolled in this school this year, so I’ll be in your care, Senpai-tachi.”
Hmm… This girl is completely different from Sasaki-sensei. She’s polite, a bit shy—like a timid little girl.
”Actually, our parents have been running a café for a long time. That was our family’s main source of income. However, due to certain circumstances—which I’ll skip over for now—my father ended up running the café all by himself. Even so, the local shop owners have been kind enough to help out. But in recent years, some bad people started showing up at our café and causing trouble. Because of them, business has been going downhill, and lately, we barely have any customers left. That’s why I have a favor to ask… Could you help drive those people away?”
”So, you consulted Sasaki-sensei, and she decided to ask us for help?”
”Yes.”
”And as Sensei said earlier, how exactly do you plan to solve this problem? Do we have a concrete plan?”
As soon as Sasaki-chan finished talking, Tsunekawa immediately threw a question at Sasaki-sensei.
Hmm… Well, if Sensei says she’s leading this, maybe I can slack off a little?
Wait, hold on a second! Why do we have to help with this in the first place?
I already got dragged into this club just to clear up some stupid rumors, which is bad enough, and now I have to deal with this too…?
”Good question! Alright, let me explain my plan.”
Sasaki-sensei said that, then shamelessly plopped herself down in my seat, crossing her long, beautiful legs. She totally looked like “the older girl next door” type!
Uh… wait, that’s my seat, though…
I mean, objectively speaking, she is pretty attractive, but her personality and actions don’t really match her looks.
Honestly, it’s no surprise that she’s still single. But those legs… yeah, I can’t look away.
Age-wise, she shouldn’t be that much older than us.
Since Sasaki Yuki, Sensei’s little sister, just entered this school, that means she’s probably a year or two younger than us.
And from the looks of it, Sasaki-sensei still seems pretty young—early twenties, maybe? So in that case, she’s not that far off from our age?
Wait, wait, wait! What the hell am I thinking?! I’m completely losing focus here!
”So, Sensei, what exactly is your plan?”
”It’s simple. For the next few days, you guys are going to help out at the café. And if those people show up, Satohama, I’m leaving it to you!”
”Eh? Ayana-chan?”
”Sensei, what do you mean by that?”
Nakano and Tsunekawa’s faces were full of shock and confusion. Naturally, I had no clue what Sensei was thinking either.
”Isn’t it obvious? Clearly, we’ll have to deal with them through force!”
What a bold statement! Wait, no, that’s definitely the wrong choice of words…
Hold on! Dealing with them through force… Does she mean—?
”I got it! If we confirm that the café is being targeted, we just unleash our strength and take them down, right?!”
”Exactly!”
Sasaki-sensei gave Satohama a big thumbs-up.
W-wait a minute! Aren’t teachers supposed to be role models? Is she seriously encouraging students to resort to violence!?
”Sensei, shouldn’t you be against using violence as a teacher?”
When I said that, Sasaki-sensei casually waved her hand, as if saying, “Oh, that’s not what I meant.”
Wait… Did I misunderstand her?
”That was just a simple explanation. Of course, I’m not teaching my students to be violent. Violence is the last resort. First, we’ll try to talk things out. But if that doesn’t work, then Satohama will have to step in. It’s a last-ditch option!”
Wow… Even Sasaki-sensei has a bit of that chuuni side, huh? She’s talking like a manga protagonist about to unleash their final move after getting cornered by the villain…
”I get what you’re saying, but…”
Just as I was about to say something, Sasaki-sensei completely cut me off, as if she hadn’t even noticed I was talking.
”Anyway, that settles it! Starting tomorrow after school, we’ll all be helping out at the café!”
…Why am I being forced into this nonsense by my teacher for no reason at all?
