Chapter 55: Selene-sama

The Next Day

I was knocked unconscious by a dropkick from Rina. 

“….”

Sparrows chirped pleasantly. Their voices reached my ear and the combination of the refreshing morning breeze and warm sunlight streaming through the crevice of the open window tempted me to go back to sleep. However, I couldn’t afford to sleep any longer. Today was a school day. 

Thinking about it, a lot had happened ever since.

Harry became undead. A mysterious young boy took him away. Selene-sama became emotionally unstable because of Harry’s betrayal, so much so that she even asked to join Five Star. Which in turn prompted her to stay in the Fibel family’s residence for the foreseeable future. 

Well, to be fair,her judgment was reasonable though.  Selene-sama was the second in line to the throne. Rhea-sama was the first in line to the throne. Given how perilous the situation in the royal palace was, it would be extremely risky to have them both staying in the same place. If anything were to happen, it would be extremely easy to take them both at the same time. Their deaths would be a disaster for the royal family. 

In other words, Selene-sama was minimizing the risk by staying here. Since the Fibel family could protect Selene-sama in their residence, the guards that had been assigned to Selene-sama before could be used to protect Rhea-sama instead. The royal family could increase Rhea-sama’s security more effectively now. Especially because Rhea-sama seemed to be the main target of Genesis. 

“Haaah…”

I sighed, feeling a bit relieved because now I had one less thing to worry about but then, a sweet scent tickled my nose. 

I rubbed my eyes with my left hand before opening them, but something felt a bit odd. I was right-handed. Therefore, I should be using my right hand to rub my hands. 

So why did I use my left hand instead?

“Hm?”

While I was pondering my situation, suddenly I felt something soft wrapped around my right arm. An exquisite softness. A softness of the highest quality. 

What could it be? I believed I had experienced a similar sensation before. After all, Rina often came sneaking into my bed while I was asleep and clutched my arm tightly. 

However, that was when we were still living in that run-down house. Ever since I came to live in the Fibel family’s residence, I had been sleeping alone the whole time. 

Besides, this softness felt a bit different. This wasn’t the feeling of Rina’s breasts. Rina’s breast had a certain firmness to it. Her breasts were squishy but also firm enough to cause enough pressure that made my arm numb in the morning. 

The current sensation I was feeling felt softer. Even the slightest movement from my arm would cause this exquisite softness to bounce like pudding. This incredible softness reminded me of expensive marshmallows. 

Gradually, my vision became clearer. 

There, on my right side, a beautiful girl with pink hair was sleeping. Together with her fluffy pajamas, the pink color of her hair stood out against the white sheets. The beautiful girl was still peacefully asleep. She was breathing softly but when I tried to pull away from her, she would pull my arm close to her ample chest instead. 

The pull didn’t feel forceful but it exerted enough force that showed her unwillingness to let me go.

“….”

I couldn’t help but break out in cold sweats. 

No matter what, I was a commoner and beside me, there was Selene-sama, the second in line to the throne. 

“Nnh…”

Letting out a soft breath, she buried her face in my arm. 

“Se-Selene-sama… Just what is happening here…?”

“….”

However, there was no response from her. 

“She’s really deep asleep…?”

Selene-sama was a smart person. Hence why, it was unlike her to act this defenseless in front of other people. Especially when her life was being targeted by a dangerous terrorist organization. 

If the one lying here wasn’t me, but another man, things would definitely escalate into an unfavorable direction.

In other words…

She must had been pushed to her limit, so much so that she ended up exposing herself in a defenseless state in front of me. Selene-sama was a mature girl and I sometimes found her hard to understand. However, looking at her sleeping peacefully somehow made my heart feel at peace. After all, I had seen how exhausted Selene-sama looked during the day. 

“I guess she’s also been going through a lot of struggle on her own…”

I said while stroking her pink hair gently. I always did this to Rina when I found her sleeping beside me too. 

But then…

“Kanato-san.”

“-!!!”

She suddenly called out my name. The raspy voice of her sounded so seductive that I ended up immediately getting off the bed and putting some distance between us. 

“My-My-My-My-My apologies!!”

I immediately bowed my head, but she continued to speak in a seductive tone, as if nothing had happened. 

“Touching my body so nonchalantly… Even though I’m the princess of this kingdom… Kanato-san, you’re quite bold, aren’t you?”

“….”

While I was still panicking internally, Selene-sama got off the bed and walked slowly to me. 

“Kanato-san.”

“Ye-Yes..?!”

“You know, it would be better for you if you can get more accustomed with the ladies of the upper-class noble and…The royal family as well.”

“….I’m just a commoner though. I can’t possibly-“

“Fufu~ Kanato-san, you’re someone who’s trying to change the very foundation of this kingdom. And of course, I know you have the power to pull that off. Whether you’re a commoner or a noble, it doesn’t matter. Well, other nobles may have different opinions about it but me? I really couldn’t care less.”

“…”

There was no hint of a lie in her words. She was speaking from her heart. 

But then, the corner of her lips curled up into a seductive smile. She opened her plump lips to say…

“Fufu~ My apologies for springing this upon you first thing in the morning. Well, I need to go to school today. Come on, we need to get ready!”

She said as she moved her slender legs to leave the room but then… Seemingly remembering something, she quickly turned on her heel and looked back at me. 

“I was able to sleep peacefully for the first time in a while thanks to you. Thank you, Kanato-san. Please take care of me from now on too.”

“….”

So she said before she left my room. 

“But… This is my room…”

We went to school right after finishing breakfast. Along the way to the school, I noticed Rina and Elena-sama kept glancing at Selene-sama and me suspiciously. 

“Kanato! I’ve missed you!”

“Jeff-sama?!”

“Now! Help me relieve the pent-up desires that has been bottling up since the past week-“

“Wa-Wait a minute!”

As soon as Selene-sama and I entered our classroom, Jeff-sama jumped toward me and suddenly pulled me into a dance.

Being forced to dance all of a sudden, I stumbled on my feet clumsily and almost fell. However, thanks to Jeff=sama’s quick reflex, I didn’t fall. He swiftly held me up, supporting me. 

No, he shouldn’t have pulled me into a dance in the first place. 

I ended up showing my pathetic side to Jeff-sama, but instead of mocking me, Jeff-sama only stared at me gently. 

“Kanato.”

“Yes?”

“Dancing is important, you know. If you’re not good at it, you won’t be able to lead your lady in the future.”

“…”

Feeling a bit embarrassed, I looked away from Jef-sama and then, my gaze naturally locked with Mia-sama’s. 

Normally, Mia-sama would interfere and say,”Jeff-sama, please don’t cause trouble for other people,” and give Jeff-sama a head chop, but this time, she only nodded and didn’t do anything. She had a gentle smile on her face as well, as if she was happy to see this scene unfolding before her. 

As for the other nobles, they didn’t start gossiping about me. They didn’t ignore me or looked at me disdainfully either. They simply only watched over us with tender looking eyes on their faces. Some of them even turned away and bit their lips, like they had to endure the shame creeping up their back from how they used to treat me before. 

But then…

『Announcement for Kanato-san of the second year from the lowest-rank class. Please come to the student council room after lunch. I repeat-』

Luna-sama’s firm and clear voice could be heard. The announcements were usually made by the other student council members but any announcement related to me was always announced by Luna-sama herself. 

Thanks to this, I ended up gaining a lot of attention from the other students. 

I sighed. My eyes wandered around and there, I saw Selene-sama. She looked amused. The corner of her mouth curled up slightly as she murmured something. 

“Luna-chan… Ufufu~”
