Chapter 1: Who Cares About a Man’s Chest?!

“….Where am I?”

Suddenly, I found myself in a vast grassland. In the distance, I could see large mountains and forests and there was a man-made path near me. However, I couldn’t see any actual roads or towns. 

Why am I in a place like this?

Despite the fog clouding my mind, I tried to retrace the last memories I had. 

“Huh? Could it be… I’m already dead?”

The last memory still lingering in my mind was of me walking home from high school. I was crossing an intersection when suddenly, the traffic light turned green. A truck came at me at full speed, hitting me. 

“Or maybe this is a dream? Maybe the real me is in the ICU…? But… This doesn’t feel like a dream.”

The warmth of the sun, the feeling of the soil beneath me, the fluttering wind against my cheeks—all of them felt so vivid, denying the possibility of this being a dream. 

So… Does that mean I really died from getting hit by a truck? Is this where people end up after death? After all, no one really knows what happens after death.

“A white shirt… My school uniform pants and my sports shoes. I’m still wearing the same clothes I wore when I was on my way home from school. I don’t have anything on me though. No smartphone and no wallet in my pockets.”

Assessing the situation calmly, I pondered what I should do next. 

For now, maybe I should just follow down this road. Maybe I will find River Styx or something.

I walked down the road for an hour, but I still couldn’t find any trace of man-made objects. Gradually, the trees seemed to be increasing. It seemed I was getting closer to a forest instead.

Darn it… Should I’ve gone the other way?

Rustle

“-?!”

A noise came from the nearby bushes. 

Something there?!

“…A slime?”

The thing that slowly emerged from the bushes was a jelly-like creature whose entire body was in aqua color. At its center, I could see a red sphere, like some sort of nucleus. The creature’s appearance was typical of a slime that I often saw in games and manga. 

“Seriously…? Is this another world for real?”

Of course I had read novels and manga about the so-called ‘isekai’ genre. Could it be that… I died after getting hit by a truck and reincarnated into another world? That possibility sounded absurd, but… When I was faced against a fantasy-like creature right in front of me, it was hard not to jump to that conclusion. 

I wondered what I should do. This cute creature was about 30cm in size, but considering this was another world, a slime could still pose a danger to me. 

At the very least, I should run away and try to find someone that could help me!

Boing

“Whoa-?!”

Just as I was about to turn on my heel and run, the slime suddenly jumped at me. Despite its jelly-like body, the slime moved three times faster than I had expected. 

Sizzle

“Whoa?! My clothes are melting?! This is bad… Am I going to melt too…. Oh? Wait. It doesn’t hurt…?”

I thought the slime was only trying to cling to my shirt, but suddenly, my shirt started melting. However, my body was left unscathed. In fact, the slime felt good actually. It felt cool and jiggly.

“Wow… This is my first time feeling this sensation. I wonder if I’ll be alright? I hope I won’t get swollen or anything…”

Grabbing the slime with both of my hands, I casually flung it far away from me. As of now, I didn’t feel anything off. My hands were also fine. However, my shirt had melted from my right shoulder down to my stomach.

Luckily, only the upper-half of my body was exposed. If the slime had melted my clothes all the way down to the lower-half of my body, it would’ve been troublesome. Since this was another world, I wasn’t really sure but if there was a law against indecent exposure here, I might not be allowed into towns or villages. 

Rustle rustle

“Is it another slime..? Huh?”

It seemed the slime from before had returned. However, before my eyes, there was three slimes. I wasn’t really sure if the slime spliced or called for backup, but either way, this was definitely bad. They might dissolve not only my clothes but also my skin too. This would definitely lead to a serious problem for me. 

I need to run!!

However, the three slimes were much faster than I anticipated. 

“Watch out!!”

But suddenly, someone came in between the slimes and me. That someone was wielding a large shield, easily blocking the attack of the three slimes. 

“Ha-!”

Then, another figure emerged alongside the large shield bearer. The new figure had a long, beautiful blonde ponytail that swayed against the wind. The new person had a longsword and she struck the red nucleus-like objects within the three slimes, shattering it. The jelly-like slimes immediately began to liquefy before it disappeared into the ground. 

“Are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?!”

The woman with the golden ponytail sheathed her longsword at her waist and turned to me. She was young, maybe around my age or slightly older than me. She was beautiful, especially with her pretty golden hair and blue eyes. She definitely wasn’t Japanese. However, for some reason, I could understand her words perfectly. 

I guess… This is another world indeed. 

“Yes. Thanks to you, I’m fine….”

“Wa-Wait?! Your clothes have melted?! Quick, we need to find something to cover you up!”

“Huh….?”

Ah, right. My shirt melted because of that slime. But, my pants were still intact though. It should be fine so why was she making such a fuss over a melting shirt?

“It seems my shirt got melted because of the slime from earlier. But it’s just my shirt. It’s alright.”

“Wha-What are you talking about?! It’s not appropriate for a young man to expose his chest! Qu-Quick! You need to cover up!”

….Huh… Young man…? Oh, maybe they’re the sheltered type who’ve never seen a man’s bare skin before?

“But… I don’t have any spare clothes with me.”

“I-Is that so? We’ve just completed a simple quest ourselves so we don’t have any spare clothes either… Hey! You guys! Quit staring at him!”

Before I knew it, another girl had come. It seemed this girl was also the companion of the blonde woman. The girl blushed as she stared at me. She looked younger than her other two companions. At the blonde woman’s command, both women turned their gaze away from me. 

But still, I doubt they’d want to see a man’s chest. A man’s chest was not fun to see or anything anyway.

“Ah, right. Please wait a moment.”

The blonde woman said and then suddenly, she removed her upper body armor. She was wearing a plain white shirt underneath that. The shirt was a bit damp from sweat. Also, it seemed in this world they didn’t have bras since I could clearly see the outlines of her nipples through the white fabric.

Oops! No, no,no! I can’t look at my savior with such lecherous eyes!! That would be disrespectful of me! No, but, more importantly, what is she trying to do?? Ohh, maybe she’s going to lend me her upper armor?”

“Alright!”

“Huh? Wa-!! Wa-Wait!! What are you doing?!”

While I was wondering what she was going to do after putting her upper body armor on the ground, the blonde woman suddenly began to take off the t-shirt she was wearing.

“Here, you should wear this.”

“NO,NO,NO,NO!! What are you talking about?! Please, put your clothes back on!!”

She tried to give me the t-shirt she had just taken off. But more importantly, she was offering me her clothes without even bothering to cover her large and splendidly beautiful chest.

“Wha-What are YOU talking about? Please, cover your chest with this! Quick!”

Why?! I don’t get it! What’s with this conversation?! We’re not on the same page at all!!

“I’m fine, so please, just cover your chest!”

“What are you talking about?! I’m a woman! Who cares about my chest?! You’re a man! Your chest is taking precedence! I will wear my armor anyway, so it’s fine.”

That’s my line! I’m a man! Who cares about a man’s chest?! This is bad. I’m just a virgin high school boy. This sight is way too stimulating for me!! Calm down! My guilty conscience won’t allow me to look at my savior with lecherous eyes! In times like this, think the opposite! Yes… One man’s bicep muscle… One man’s latissimus dorsi muscle.. One man’s pectoral muscle… Alright, it’s working. My little one is starting to calm down. No, wait, what kind of calming down method is that?!

“I understand! Thank you for lending me your clothes, so please! Put on your armor quickly!”

After making a funny internal jab at myself, I felt a bit calmer now. I chuckled. It was clear that neither of us had any intention of backing down so I decided it’d be best if I prioritized covering both of our chests now. 

“Yeah, I got it.”

I took the t-shirt she offered and put it on, trying my best to avoid looking at her chest. Her scent and warmth still lingered on the t-shirt, making my heart race wildly.
